"And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the Lord hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me."
(Genesis 29:32 KJV)
There was a "contest?" between (Our Awesome God's chosen mans') Jacob's two wives; Leah (the unloved wife) and her sister, Rachel (the loved wife). So that when Leah gave birth to the second son she said, "Because the Lord hath heard that I am hated, He has therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon." (Genesis 29:33 KJV).
Simeon, the second son of Jacob by Leah, and progenitor of one of the tribes of Israel was born at Padan-aram. Simeon was prominent in two incidents: He was associated with his brother Levi in the cruel massacre of the Shechemites in revenge for the defilement of Dinah (their sister), for which act he was rebuked by Jacob (Genesis 34:25); later he was taken by Joseph as a hostage and imprisoned until his brothers had returned with Benjamin (Genesis 42:24).
Jacob, when he was about to die in Egypt, prophesied concerning his children and said of Simeon, "Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall. Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel." (Genesis 49:5-7 KJV)
Simeon became a tribe found within the shadow of Judah with a number of cities that were given to them by Judah because Judah had too much. Together with their brethren they fought to drive out the Caananites but never drove them completely out. I often feel this tribe was satisfied with too little and left things half done because, like us, they only accomplished a small amount of what Our Awesome God wanted them to do. God wants us to have it all but we don't obey Him completely and turn everything over to Him so we only get a small blessing.
Christ's commandment is to "love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12 KJV). Join us this Sunday as we learn more about Our Awesome God and how to teach others from His Holy Bible. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets along with AWANA for children who go until 7:30 PM. Wednesday at 7:00 PM is Prayer Requests and Bible Study along with the Youth Chapel. There is more during the week. We love visitors!
