"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid".
(John 14:27 KJV)
As we become more knowledgeable and mature, we should be looking for the extra surprises that can be found in Our Awesome God's Holy Bible. One of them is "shalom," the Hebrew word for peace in scripture. But it is special. It conveys a feeling of intent and emotion when spoken as a greeting that is more peaceful than just "hello" or "goodbye." It conveys a feeling of wholeness, completeness, contentment, rest, health, welfare, perfection and fullness. That is why in the verse above Jesus says "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth ..." His peace is that special complete and perfect peace that only He can give and will give to His children.
Here are a few of the Scriptures found in the Bible that try to describe God's special Peace. It was prophesied that Jesus would be "the Prince of Peace" in Isaiah 9:6. The true peace comes from God to and God is said to be "the God of peace" found in Romans 15:33. In Philippians 4:7, the peace of God is so wonderful that it "passeth all understanding". God's peace is able to "keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7).
Yes, God's peace is special and something we should all strive to obtain because this "shalom" gives a lasting warm perfect feeling of God's love and care for you. Once you have felt it (the peace), you will want to feel it again! (Like God is hugging you and saying "Well done, My good and faithful servant.")
Often, "peace" is far from us and we feel "guilty" of helping to put Jesus on His Cross when we have and are "sinning" or disobeying God's Word. If this feeling is yours, come join us as we get to know that God is Awesome. Our God created love and this special "peace" for which our language has no good word.
Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard, telling others and reminding ourselves about His story, Jesus Christ's Salvation, and our eternal home with Him, trying to help them to understand Our Creator better. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and a Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour with a children's program called AWANA until 7:30 PM. There are plans for more during the week of Bible Discussions in homes. Prayer meetings are on Wednesday at 7:00 PM with Bible Study. We love visitors!
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
(Malachi 3:10 KJV)
Money is important to Our Awesome God, not because He needs or wants it, but because it is important to you, so it is important to God. In fact, God is interested in how you get it, how you spend it, how you save it and how you share it. And don't say it's not spiritual because how you handle your money is a test of where your heart is.
In Malachi's day, people had treated Our Awesome God very badly by stealing from Him (3:8). They had become bored with God. Their worship had turned from personal to ritual. As a result they offered blemished sacrifices (1:6-14); the priests were unfaithful (2:1-9); divorce was easy and happened frequently (2:10-17); their words wearied God (2:17); employers were cheating their workers, cheating their customers and taking advantage of widows, orphans and gentiles (3:1-5).
Now a tithe today is just 10% of your gross income (before anything is taken out) and is only the minimum amount you should be returning to Our Awesome God. These were a poor people in Malachi's Day but God knew that their heart had strayed from Him and He wanted them to return to their worship of Him. Some reasons to invoke the tithe was 1) tithing admits God's Divine ownership in our lives, 2) tithing brings an important part of lives under the control of Jesus Christ, 3) when the first fruit is holy, the whole lump of earnings will be holy and God will bless the 90% you still have, 4) tithing makes our heart more receptive to God's will, 5) God will bless all areas of our lives if we are in His will, 6) we are stealing from God when we withhold it and 7) it blesses your church by enabling it to carry out a greater ministry. The tithe is to go to your local church but an offering above the tithe can go to any worthy group or purpose you designate. Tithing is an act of worship but it is also a holy act (Leviticus 27:30) one that shows God where your heart is.
LWBC is a loving church who tries to live by Biblical principles while encouraging all its members. Join us for church in the Sanctuary this coming Sunday at 10:30 AM. We also have Bible Study on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Sunday evening at 6:00 PM. Our programs are varied but we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. We love visitors!
"And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."
(Mark 1:15 KJV)
"And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God."
(John 6:69 KJV)
A definition for the word believe is 1) to accept as true or real, 2) to accept the truth, existence, worth, etc., of something, 3) to trust someone; have confidence, 4) to have religious faith (from Webster's Comprehensive Dictionary 2004 edition). In order to believe, we must have some knowledge concerning what is to be believed, we need trust or confidence, and we need faith.
When someone comes to the point of believing in Jesus Christ, they have to know enough about Jesus to have confidence and faith in Him. After they make a profession of faith, we need to continue to teach them and show them how to learn more about Our Awesome God. This means they need to believe that the Holy Bible is God's Word to man without doubt. Again we are asking them to believe in something that cannot be proven beyond a doubt until we get to heaven. Maybe we should look at the things around us to realize life takes more than man can do by himself. It takes God!!
As we and the new believer see Our Awesome God working His miracles in our lives, the beliefs we have will deepen and change, bringing us closer to God. When we see and read of the miracles that happen all around us, we know mere humans couldn't think or do them without help. This is often called maturing. It is a wonderful way to increase your faith, knowledge and belief in Him.
There is also a difference in believing in Our Awesome God and Jesus Christ and to believe what He says. If He says He can do all things and we believe Him, why don't we let Him do them? Instead, our prayers are careful that we don't make our requests too big for God. If He indicates that He wants us to do something, we timidly step forward and make a small movement when in order to meet His request we may need to move quickly and decisively. No job is too small or large for God. So believe Him! Trust Him with the impossible. Ask Him! Don't be timid! He will do the best for everyone.
We (as a church) want all people in church, worshipping Our Awesome God with faith and obedience every Sunday. If you are not yet a Christian, it is time that you should know and love Our Awesome God as your Creator and Savior. Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we pray and worship Him this Sunday at 10:30 AM and at 6:00 PM for an hour of Bible Study along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
"Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest."
(Joshua 1:7 KJV)
Joshua is thought to be the greatest Israelite military leader in all Bible History. Our Awesome God had Moses train and helped him to become the man God needed to take the place of Moses and be a military leader. He needed to be reminded to "Only be thou strong and very courageous,..." as God said. Joshua did many things in unusual ways with God's direction and help.
Here are a few things the Bible mentions about Joshua; 1) Joshua was born as a slave in Egypt, about 40 years before the Exodus. He was the son of Nun, of the tribe of Ephraim (1 Chronicles 7:20,27). 2) Joshua was an active participant in the Exodus, and was Moses' military commander when the Israelites defeated the Amalekites at Rephidim (Exodus 17:8-16). 3) Joshua was a close aide to Moses. He was permitted to accompany him part of the way up Mount Sinai when Moses received The Ten Commandments from God. (Exodus 32:15-21). 4) After the taking of the city of Jericho, Joshua led the Israelites on their campaign to take the land that God had commanded them to live in - 6 nations and 31 kings fell to them (Joshua 11:18-23, 12:24). 5) Joshua died at the age of 110, 25 years after the Israelites entered into the Promised Land (Joshua 24:28-30).
As long as Joshua did exactly as Our Awesome God told him, he won the battle or succeeded at what he tried to do. When he left God's Path by "turning to the right or left", he lost what he was striving for. What "battles" could we win if we would "turn not from it to the right hand or to the left," but did what God directs? Joshua led his people with the help of Our Awesome God to overcome 6 nations and 31 kings. Can we, with God's help, bring back our own Christian nation?
What has Our Awesome God told us to do that we are not doing? Read your Bible, listen to God and make yourself available to do it. First pray and ask for God's direction and blessing. Then go to a church that offers you help and encouragement and ask for God's help to start doing it!
Join us at LWBC. Every Sunday, at 9:30 AM, we have small group Bible Studies and at 10:30 AM, we meet in the sanctuary for Worship Service. Sunday evening at 6:00 PM we have Bible Study and AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. Our programs also include a Wednesday Prayer Meeting and Bible Study but are varied as we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible. We love visitors and practice the "love one another" commandment to all.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
(Galatians 5:22-23 KJV)
"Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand."
(Philippians 4:5 KJV)
"Temperance" is one out of the group called "Fruits of the Spirit" that is given by the Holy Spirit so you are leaning on God. So it is important to know what it means and how it can be used for Our Awesome God's glory.
A good dictionary definition of "temperance" would be self-control in all one's feelings, desires or actions by using one's own will. But "temperance" in the KJV Holy Bible includes self-control and also indicates a mastery or complete control of yourself with help from the Holy Spirit. So while the word "temperance" can be referring to someone not consuming liquor (1 Peter 4:3-4), it can include much more than drinking.
In fact, the concept of temperance should have an effect on every aspect of our lives as we work hard to control our thoughts, words and actions for Our Awesome God's glory. Paul put it this way, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" (2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV).
True temperance means we must be guarded in our speech for Our Awesome God's glory. We must watch what we say when we are angry because anger often causes people to accuse others of that which sober thought would tell us was unjust and untrue. Even exaggeration in speech is intemperate.
Temperance (self-control) is admired by most people and can be used in Our Awesome God's ministry to help others to become more Christ-like while on earth. It is a wonderful example of what Christians should be.
Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we love others while preaching and teaching from our Holy Bible about God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Our church has a Bible Study at 9:30 AM on Sunday and Worship Service at 10:30 AM and then at 6:00 PM there is another Bible Study and AWANA for children. We have Prayer Requests at 7:00 PM followed by a Bible Study on Wednesday evening. We love visitors! God bless!
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."
(Jeremiah 29:11 KJV)
Optimism can be defined as, "a tendency to expect the best possible outcome or dwell on the most hopeful aspects of a situation" (Free Online Dictionary. www.freeonlinedictionary.com). This world we live in has what is called optimism but if you aren't a Christian who follows and believes that God's commandments are in His Holy Bible, it would be a vain optimism.
Many Christians do not appear to have joyful optimism although they have an eternal life with the Best - Jesus Christ, in a wonderful, rent free home with all the amities that one could want (John 14:2-3), with clothes that never wear out, with loving family and friends, all the food you could want, all the knowledge you want and it is forever. We should be overjoyed to know this is our future! Our Awesome God has a plan for each of us if we will only believe in Jesus Christ and obey His commandments.
It is hard to remember that we have true joyful optimism because now we have insecurities (Proverbs 3:5), we sin (John1:8, 10), we fear men and what they can do to us, we don't remind ourselves of what Our Awesome God has said in His Holy Bible and/or our faith in God is not strong.
We need to address our insecurities by remembering that "...with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27 KJV), and then overcome them with God's help. We should continue all through our life to find our sins, confess them and stop sinning. Remember that, "if God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31). Read daily Jeremiah 29:11, so that you remember that God is for you and knows you by name.
Our Awesome God would like all His children to show joyful optimism about the future they have as Christians in heaven. If you aren't a Christian, Our Awesome God accepts anyone who realizes that they are sinning and is ready to stop sinning and do it God's way. Come, tell Him your sins and that you are ready to stop. All Christians have confessed, because only our Lord can get rid of sin for you. Don't wait! A Christian is just a saved sinner. Become a Christian by repenting of those sins and believing in Christ's ability to pay your sin debt.
On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour and a children's program until 7:30 PM. We love visitors!
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
(John 14:6 KJV)
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."
(John 1:1-3 KJV)
Jesus Christ is found throughout the Holy Bible from Genesis to Revelations. In Genesis, He is found in the plurality of God: "... let us make man in our image..." (Genesis 1:26 KJV), as Our Awesome God finished creating the universe. John 1:3 tells us that Jesus was the principle creator. As God, He is an eternal Being and has the same characteristics as His Father, God. But Jesus Christ is the Son of Our Awesome God (Matthew 16:16). In Revelation, He is the final conqueror who subdues the nations in battle (Revelation 19:15-16).
So when we say that Jesus is the Son of God, we, mean that Our Awesome God has begotten His Son in His very own divine nature. When begetting is used it gives you a visual picture that holds two truths: 1) God the Father is not God the Son and God the Son is not God the Father. They really are two different conscious Beings that relate to each other in perfect unity. But while saying that, 2) we need to remember that the Father and the Son are one God not two Gods. They are just one essence and one divine nature. Our Awesome God has always contained this perfect image of Himself called His Son.
God has given two important tasks to Jesus Christ, His Son. 1) The first task was salvation of sinful man, so He sent Him to the cross because then man would have a way to get to heaven and eternal life (John 14:6 KJV), thus making Jesus the only way to eternal life. 2) He gave Jesus the judgment of all of mankind (John 5:22). So we need to realize that Jesus is our salvation and will judge us, especially, those who won't believe in Him.
If you are a Christian and believe in Jesus Christ, you should tell all that you meet about Jesus Christ. If you aren't a Christian, you need to come to our church or join any church that preaches and teaches that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. Our Awesome God wants all to enjoy our peaceful heaven with Him. He loves you! He wants you to love Him and follow Jesus Christ!
Join us at LWBC as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard to tell everyone about Jesus Christ and His salvation. We start with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Worship Service at 10:30 AM. There are many opportunities to learn about God in our programs. See what you can do!
