"And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
(Genesis 6:7 KJV)
Where was Noah when he built the Ark? Maybe in the Armenian Mountains in Turkey not far from where many scientists think the "Cradle of Civilization" was. But no actual spot has been found. Major changes had to have been occurring on the surface of the earth under the water. Being the shape and size of the Ark (Genesis 6:14-18) with no way to steer it, the vessel was subject to moving with the wind and water currents, especially with mountains and earth below it possibly shifting. We have no way of knowing whether it traveled 50 feet or thousands of miles.
We do know how large it was and that it was made of gopher wood (Genesis 6:14-18) the Holy Bible tells us this and it must have been near trees, people, water and mountains. What is gopher wood and where is it? The Ark must have been close to the gopher wood since it was made of it. But no one seems to know anything about it or what plant or tree is like it.
Where did it "land" or go a-ground? The Holy Bible says on the mountains of Ararat (Genesis 8:4-16). Tradition places it on Mount Ararat, itself, maybe because it is the highest peak. One scientific writer says: "The mountain has two different peaks arising from one base but both have the ancient volcanic rock. The peaks have names: Great Ararat (~17,000 feet) and Little Ararat (~14,000 feet), located above a plain called Araxes. Great Ararat has snow on it all year long."
The two questions remain and may never be answered while we are on earth: 1) Where was Noah when he built the Ark? And 2) Exactly where did the Ark "land" or go a-ground? We may never know but we can know that Our Awesome God is in control and though He was angry at a sinful world of people, He has mercy on us. Praise God!!
