"And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in."
(Joshua 14:10-11 KJV)
Caleb is first seen as one of the twelve spies sent by Moses into the land of Canaan to check out the land Our Awesome God had given them (Numbers 13:6). Caleb and Joshua were the only two of twelve spies who said they could defeat the Canaanites with God's help. The other ten said that the Israelites were like "grasshoppers" to the giants (Numbers 13:33) and the fortified cities of Canaan.
Caleb is called "my servant" by God in Numbers 14:24, a position of the highest honor and, up to this time in the Bible, used only for Moses. God knew that Caleb was His man, for Caleb trusted that if God was on his side he would conquer whatever God said to conquer. Most of the Israelites didn't trust in God enough, so God sent them into the desert to wander (40 years) until all of that generation had died except Moses, Caleb and Joshua.
We must see that Caleb trusted Our Awesome God. All of the children of Israel were physically delivered from Egypt, but Caleb was also spiritually delivered! Those that died in the desert became weak and succumbed to death for their lack of trust as God had told them, but not Moses, Caleb and Joshua. Joshua had just led the Israelite Army successfully against the Canaanites for 25 years when Caleb made the statement in Joshua 14:10-11 above.
Many of us are like the Israelites who died in the desert, we give God a little of our trust but we can't seem to give Him our complete trust in all things. Are you trusting Our Awesome God for all things? Because if you are not trusting Him for everything, you need to check your Bible carefully and then decide what it will take to trust God (Psalms 56:11 KJV) with all your possessions, your family, even your life, if that is what He wants from you. Then do whatever God wants you to do.
Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard, telling others and reminding ourselves about His story, Jesus Christ's Salvation, and our eternal home with Him, trying to help them to understand Our Creator better. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and a Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour along with a children's program called AWANA. There is more during the week of Bible Studies in homes and a Prayer meeting on Wednesday. We love visitors!
