"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:"
(1 Peter 2:2 KJV)
"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen."
(2 Peter 3:18 KJV)
We would all like to enrich our lives while improving ourselves and the lives of those around us. We need to know which things we are doing for Our Awesome God and for ourselves. This is not so easily done, but one way to start is to know what you are doing daily and insert changes with improvements as needed to be sure it is for God's glory. With this in mind, just take a week (last week) and write down what you did from Sunday through Saturday with the start of your day (time), what you did after you got up, got a drink, took a shower, had breakfast, etc. for the whole day including what time to bed that night. Do it for the full week on your computer, an old unused calendar or a pad of paper, leaving space for additions between the lines. Go through your list one item at a time and decide if it is for yourself or does it glorify God, or both; or is it something that leads you away from God. Put it somewhere that you can easily add or remove an activity, but get it down so you can tell what your usual routine is. Maybe it includes school, work, home or retirement activities, etc.
Anything that leads you away from God should be eliminated first. Replace it with God glorifying activities. Then consider putting other improvements into your daily activities that you aren't doing now and that glorify Our Awesome God. The schedule replacements and improvements might include things such as, spend time praying in the morning and evening, read the Bible for 1/2 hour daily or every other day, finding time and a Bible Study group to attend, go to Church on Wednesday evening, learning to pause when you are tense and talk to God, etc. The improvements may include anything that increases your growth and maturity in Christ.
Then take a new paper or calendar, or update your computer to make a new calendar of daily activities that includes the improvements as well as your daily activities. Now you may need to take some activities off your list or rearrange your present calendar in some way but be sure there are more activities to include God. If necessary, change several days to get the new activity in, but get it in! Make a fresh paper copy and use it to keep you on the new schedule. You will gain in Christian maturity as you regularly spend more time with Our Awesome God. Start your new schedule as soon as you can so it can become a habit in 2017.
Our church is a loving church that wants to help others to a better understanding of Our Awesome God and His love, mercy and grace for all of mankind. Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we love others while preaching and teaching from our Holy Bible about God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Our church has a Bible Study at 9:30 AM on Sunday and Worship Service at 10:30 AM and then at 6:00 PM there is another Bible Study that meets for an hour with a children's program called AWANA running until 7:30 PM. (September through May). On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and Bible Study along with a separate Spanish Bible Study until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
"And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came."
(Genesis 12:5 KJV)
Lot was Abraham's (Abram's) nephew who left Haran with him and traveled to Caanan in his Caravan. We know little about Lot and less of his household. His age is never mentioned but he must have been at least a teen-ager when they left Haran. There is no mention of family members, other than servants, before he settled in Sodom. While he stayed with Abraham, he was apparently a dutiful nephew and he was righteous before God (2 Peter 2:7-8). But the Old Testament scripture only tells us that he went with them to Egypt during the famine and he must have been righteous because Our Awesome God took him out of the judgment of Sodom.
After returning from Egypt, Abraham and Lot decided to separate to avoid family conflicts because their shepherds were fighting each other. Lot chose the fertile and well watered plains around Sodom where he could easily prosper by his own efforts. Later Lot sold his livestock for a house in Sodom with his wife and daughters.
When Lot moved his tents closer to Sodom, he made a poor decision based on worldly attractions. Lot soon moved into town and raised at least four daughters in a society so bad that Our Awesome God could not find ten righteous men in it. Lot became a part of that society and completely lost his witness for God. Still, being righteous, God made Lot escape from Sodom before He destroyed it. Only Lot and his two unmarried daughters survived God's judgment of Sodom. Lot never regained his close relationship with God and died in poverty as a result of his poor decisions.
We need to apply some of the lessons we can see in Lot's life to our own lives. First, when we follow Our Awesome God, it requires a lot of faith and effort, especially if we live up to the potential that He has for us. Second, we, like Lot, are surrounded by a corrupt and sinful society. We may try to get our children into good schools and in safe areas of the city, but it is hard to isolate them from worldly temptations, and almost impossible when we stop associating with other believers.
Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard. We start with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour with a children's program called AWANA until 7:30 PM. (September through May). On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and Bible Study along with a separate Spanish Bible Study until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
" He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord."
(Psalms 113:9 KJV)
By definition, BARREN means unfruitful, unproductive or childless and is commonly used to describe a physical problem among women. A barren woman was considered abnormal in scripture and often interpreted as being punished by Our Awesome God. But the word, barren, is often used in other ways: barren ground - "...the water is naught, and the ground barren" (2 Kings 2:19 KJV); spiritual condition - "For if these things be in you and abound, they make you that ye should neither be barren or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 1:8).
God has a purpose in barrenness; (Ironically, He can use it to make you more fruitful or to make you be more creative). Being unproductive or barren often invokes strong feelings and Our Awesome God uses our feelings to improve what we are doing or sometimes to get us to change what and how we are doing things. For instance, Hannah promised in tears to dedicate her son to God if He would remove her barrenness (1 Samuel, Chapter 1). There are times when God will purposefully allow us to go through barren places, as He did Hezekiah. "...God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart;" (2 Chronicles 32:31 KJV).
Many times when you may feel you have crossed into a place of spiritual barrenness, you may battle many feelings - discouragement, despair, anger, you feel unproductive, unfruitful, nothing is happening. God may be using the experience to accomplish something in you, to make you fruitful, more productive, to mature or think more creatively. These experiences are often used to have people develop a hunger to seek Our Awesome God so He can give them what they need and want to feel complete. It is for you to mature in your walk with God and usually means you need to get on your knees and talk to God. Pray, for God has a purpose in what He does and you are on earth now because your purpose here is to be fruitful. God is working in you!
Our Awesome God cares about the barren and wants them to bear fruit. God's kingdom is not a dead, dry, barren place, it is a place of growth and fruitfulness. "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit..." (John 15:5 KJV). God wants us to bear fruit and sometimes we don't even know we are fruitful.
If you are a Christian who has strayed away from Our Awesome God or someone who has never been a Christian or a person who needs to help minister to others, join us at Living Word Baptist Church on Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study and at 10:30 AM for Worship Service. At 6:00 PM we have a Bible Study along with AWANA for children (September through May) until 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests, and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We welcome all people and love them!
"But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."
(2 Peter 2:1 KJV)
Jesus warned us that “false Christs and false prophets” will come and will attempt to deceive even Our Awesome God’s elect (Matthew 24:23-27; see also 2 Peter 3:3 and Jude 17-18). The best way to guard yourself against falsehood and false teachers is to know the truth. To spot a counterfeit, study the real thing. Any believer who “correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15) and who makes a careful study of the Bible can identify false doctrine. For example, a believer who has read the activities of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in Matthew 3:16-17 will immediately question any doctrine that denies the Trinity. Therefore, step one is to study the Bible and judge all teaching by what the Scripture says.
Both Peter and Jude write in their epistles warning us about false teachers in the churches posing as Christians and changing Our Awesome God's Holy Word. They have written these things about false teachers because to be forewarned is to be ready when you hear one and not to believe one. Peter and Jude are warning us that these false teachers are out there and have disrupted other churches. When you hear preaching on the TV or in your church pulpit, listen carefully, take down Scriptures (later look them up and see if they say to you what the person preaching said and then check with someone who knows their Bible, what does it say to them) and know your Bible.
Our Awesome God wants you to know Him well enough that you will check on anything that doesn't sound like God or what He would want you to believe or do. There are false teachers and even false prophets so don't get pulled in to a false religion or cult by listening to them. Read your Bible and pray daily keeping your focus on God!
We (as a church) want all people in church, worshipping Our Awesome God with faith and obedience every Sunday. If you are not yet a Christian, it is time that you should know and love Our Awesome God as your Creator and Savior. Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we pray and worship Him this Sunday at 10:30 AM and at 6:00 PM for Bible Study along with AWANA for children (September tjrough May). On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
"Wait on the Lord : be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord."
(Psalms 27:14 KJV)
"Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly."
(Acts 19:36 KJV)
This definition of HASTE is found in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary: 1. rapidity of motion, 2. rash or headlong action, 3. undue eagerness to act.
Nowhere in the Bible does Our Awesome God say to make a decision hastily. God doesn't do things that way. The Bible says God is gracious, merciful and slow to anger (Nehemiah 9:17). He is long suffering, not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9).
When we feel the need to act hastily, that is the time we need to slow up, pray to Our Awesome God and get our details and facts in order before we act or talk. Once we have acted or made a thoughtless statement, we can't go back and the consequences may be severe. So before you act or talk, decide what you want to make happen and consider the consequences. Pray for God’s guidance and watch for the answer. This is usually best because Satan is waiting for you to say or do the wrong thing.
It is true that we sometimes need to move or decide swiftly but we should ask God for help and move as swiftly as His answer comes. So in most instances, God wants you to evaluate the situation and rely on Him to tell you when and what you should say or do. Our Awesome God will help if you ask, He may already have it covered but you need to ask Him. Join a church where Our Awesome God can be found and learn His ways.
When Our Awesome God answers, be ready to follow His directions carefully for His answers need to be done when, how and where He wants them done. It will help if you know Him well enough to realize how He usually wants things done and remember, He can do anything but usually uses natural things to accomplish His will. He may have you do something it will take a century to complete or say something that will change the world instantly. Follow His instructions! But ask Him, He knows the right answer.
LWBC is a loving church who tries to live by Biblical principles while encouraging all its members. Join us for church this coming Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study. We have Worship Service in the Sanctuary at 10:30 AM and Sunday evening Bible Study at 6:00 PM with a children's program called AWANA until 7:30 PM. Our programs are varied but we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. We love visitors!
"And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation."
(Isaiah 25:9 KJV)
"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil… And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;"
(Ephesians 5:15-16, 18 KJV)
Your time here on earth is fleeting (life) and then gone. Store up those "Precious Memories" of life here on earth, because heaven with Our Awesome God will eclipse anything that happens on earth. Our life here on earth is just preparation for heaven and eternity.
As we wait here on earth for Jesus Christ's Second Coming (the Rapture of the His People) to happen, we need to remember the wise virgins and that they were prepared for the Bridegroom to come. Are we following Our Awesome God's commandments? Are we obedient? Are we loving all of God's people? Are we preparing ourselves for heaven and eternity as heirs to God's kingdom? Don't grow weary doing what Our Awesome God asks us to do. We are waiting for our Bridegroom, Jesus Christ to come. Keep alert and keep improving your skills by trying what God wants you to learn to do. Read the Book of Revelation in the Bible and try to imagine how you will feel as each scene described happens.
Don't get impatient for Jesus Christ to come. You should be adding more crowns and remembering why God is waiting for that perfect time for Jesus Christ to come. "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9 KJV) Yes, God is waiting until all have heard about Him and have had the chance to become Christians before sending Jesus Christ back.
Our Awesome God wants all to come to heaven but we each are choosing what we want...heaven or "the fiery pit". God wants each of us in a church that believes in Jesus Christ, a church that preaches and teaches from the Bible, focusing on God and Jesus. The church should be loving, living by Biblical principles, and encouraging to its members. Use your time on earth wisely for Our Awesome God. See you in heaven if not before!
Join us at LWBC every Sunday at 9:30 AM, we have small group Bible Studies and at 10:30 AM, we meet in the sanctuary for Worship Service. Sunday evening at 6:00 PM we have Bible Study along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. Our programs include Home Bible Studies and a Wednesday Prayer Meeting but are varied as we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible. We love visitors and practice the "love one another" commandment to all.
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
(Acts 1:8 KJV)
"Our God is an Awesome God. He reigns from Heaven above with wisdom, power and love". Yes, we should feel joy, peace and love because we are Christians and His children. We need to remind ourselves of His wisdom, power, and love sometimes. But we know Heaven is our home forever! We know that if we belong to Jesus Christ we will not escape but will be a Christian forever.
The word Christian means a lot. It means we live forever with Jesus Christ in heaven. It means love and help from Our Awesome God. It means we live in heaven forever with no fighting, no pain, no sorrow, and no disease. We will be happy ruling with Jesus Christ and helping others.
What about others who aren't His children, who don't know about God and His love for us or the salvation and home He offers us? Have we told them about God or even invited them to church? Is our walk with God above reproach? Do we walk, think and talk like God wants us to? Are we thinking about how long forever is in Hell without the peace and love of Jesus Christ?
"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9 KJV
Our Awesome God keeps His promises and is aware of all things that have happened and are going to happen in the future, nothing surprises Him! Christians are children of the most powerful, loving and creating God and King. He knows everything and everyone!
Our Awesome God asks us to tell all people about Jesus Christ not just those we want to. We never know for sure who is saved. We don't always know if they were told clearly about Jesus and His salvation. Regardless, if the non-Christian were told again, or in a different way about God and salvation, might he believe in God and follow Him? Can you take the chance by not telling them about Jesus one more time? Most of all, when you call yourself a Christian, remember what you stand for or represent - Jesus Christ and His world!
