"Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:"
(Romans 7:20-22 KJV)
We will suffer in our flesh, whether we feed our bodies desires or deny its pleasures. We are constantly fighting between what we want to do versus what we know that Our Awesome God wants us to do. "All have sinned and fall short," but the blood of Christ has saved us from destruction. The battle is raging because we are given the power to overcome sin's grasps through the blood of Jesus Christ. There is no battle when there is no opposing side. It takes two, at least, to fight. When we are dead in our sins, there is no spiritual battle within us because there is not any spiritual life. The Spirit of God brings us to life spiritually, but we live in these bodies of flesh that still have a sinful nature. Thus, the battle rages in the lives of believers but the victory is assured because we are in Christ. This is our constant inner battle!
There is a coming "evil day," when the spiritual war will expand and the problems for believers will increase (Ephesians 5:15-16). This time will come in that future day when Satan's opposition will intensify, leading to the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and the final destruction of Satan and his hosts (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12; Revelation 12, 20).
The Christian warrior is to be characterized by vigilance, so that he will not be caught off guard by Satan’s schemes, and so that he will be able to stand in the final days of confrontation. Therefore he needs to be aware of the Spiritual Battles that are raging in and around him.
Don’t you desire to be all that God wants you to be because He is so good that He only gives you good things? And don’t you want to have all that God wants you to have because He wants the best for you? If so, then you have to accept that there are forces set against you to prevent you from having any of these things fulfilled in you. And we must fight those forces in spiritual battles, in earthly battles and in inner battles.

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
(Romans 12:2 KJV)
"And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the Lord do to all your enemies against whom ye fight."
(Joshua 10:25 KJV)
Read the Our Awesome God's Holy Scripture above and especially Romans 12:2 carefully. It would seem that, according to this Scripture, we are to be in the world but not like the world. We are to be different. Not prideful or envious. Why? Because these forces that think they control the World (or earth) hate or battle with God because of pride and envy.
We, as Christians, are Our Awesome God’s children and the earth is God's. Thus, if the world is in conflict with God, the world is also in conflict with us. A big part of our Spiritual Battles is the Worldly or Earthly Battles we face because we are Christians and need to defend our faith. Remember Joshua in 10:25 as he told them that God would fight for them.
The prayer of Jesus to Our Awesome God in John 17:14-26 expresses the heart of Jesus since He knows the battles that we will and do face in this world. We are not called to be a part of the world, we are sent in to the world to be a witness of Jesus Christ. This is a miraculous calling and it takes the miracle of the Holy Spirit living in us to fulfill it and to remember God has won the real battle.
It also takes discernment to know the ways of Our Awesome God and the ways of the world. Because we are born into this world, we naturally think according to it. We have to be transformed to understand God’s ways instead (Romans 12:3). The battles here on earth are becoming more frequent and are becoming more intense when a person decides to accept Jesus as their Savior, the enemy will then attack from all directions. He will use circumstances, events, people, things and even doubt in a new Christian's mind to steal his heart back to his old ways.
When we are made aware of the world's influences and how they are in contrast to God's ways, we must then learn how to operate in the world as a true follower of God. It is one thing to be naive to the world's deceptions but once the truth is revealed, we have a responsibility to obey Our Awesome God's directions for us. Tomorrow the Our Awesome God series will include "#3 The Inner Battle."

"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."
(Isaiah 14:12, 14-15 KJV)
The above verse from the Book of Isaiah describes Satan's (Lucifer's) fall to earth and him starting his troubling of the nations of earth to dethrone Our Awesome God. When we talk about "spiritual battles," we are talking about there being a spiritual realm that we do not see and that we would like to ignore. But we need to believe that this spiritual realm exists because it does. Read Nehemiah 9:6, Luke 2:13-15, Ephesians 6:12 and then Colossians 1:15-16.
We all have the feeling, at times, that this world has more in it than we can see. If we can believe in Our Awesome God and Jesus Christ whom we can't see then surely we can believe in a spiritual battle that includes words, lies, deceit from Satan.
The Bible, Our Awesome God's Book, is filled with references to the heavenly realm (Numbers 22:22-25), a place that is physically invisible to our eyes today, yet very real in its existence. We Christians believe with the eyes of our heart, instead of just with the eyes in our head. There have been some who were able to see into the spiritual realm as physical images. (John in Revelation is one).
A portion of "spiritual battles" is the war within you between the flesh and the Spirit and it began in the Garden of Eden. It was the start of the second recorded battle between Satan and Our Awesome God in the war for God's place in heaven. Satan knew how much God loved man and chose to intercept men's souls (their allegiance) through lies and deceit in the Garden of Eden (the beginning of our spiritual battles). It is a battle between Satan and Our Awesome God and we are the pawns. So when we chose to sin, we chose to take Satan's side. Thus, we lose.
We need to know that the spiritual realm exists and that there is a spiritual battle for our souls so we can defend ourselves with God’s salvation and live eternally in heaven with Our Awesome God. Tomorrow, the Our Awesome God series will include "#2, The Earthly Battle."

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
(John 15:13 KJV)
"For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."
(1 Corinthians 15:21 22 KJV)
Since ancient times man has honored those who have died while fighting their enemies. Memorial Day is a day the United States Government has set aside to honor our veterans who have lost their lives during conflict.
The exact date that a special day was set aside to honor soldiers who died while fighting in any of the States before the Civil War is difficult to determine. But on 5 May 1868 General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, ordered that flowers be placed on May 30, 1868 at Arlington National Cemetery on all Union and Confederate soldiers' graves. And we do know that there were scattered ceremonies honoring the dead before the time of the Civil War. Nothing had been done on a National level to honor them annually but some states or cities in the Union and Confederate States had varying ceremonies to honor their dead soldiers.
After the Civil War, this collection of ceremonies became known as Decoration Day and honored soldiers of both the Union and the Confederate Armies. The 20th century ceremonies included honor for all military personnel in our country with speeches, flags, parades, visiting of graveyards, visiting of memorials, remembering past glories in military service and possibly potluck dinners after speeches. So Memorial Day now occurs at the beginning of summer although many of the activities that were associated with Decoration Day have been discontinued.
A typical program for the Arlington National Cemetery might include: 1) Being on the last Monday in May, 2) the gravestones in Arlington Cemetery have been decorated with United States flags for the weekend, 3) speeches made by famous people about those killed in battle and a 21 gun salute. Today, Memorial Day is a national holiday for remembering the men and women that died while serving in the United States and allowing us religious freedom.
