"And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord."
(2 Chronicles 20:3-4 KJV)
King Jehoshaphat feared and knew he couldn't stop the coming enemies so he "set himself to seek the Lord" immediately. He knew only that Our Awesome God could stop these people so he declared a fast. He was determined to hear from the Lord!
What do you do first, when you find yourself in distress? Go get advise from your neighbor? Tell your boss? The first thing you should do is get on your knees and ask help from Our Awesome God. If your neighbor or your boss has the answer, God will send you to him like He had Cornelius send for Peter (Acts 10). We should make it a habit to run to the Lord when we see trouble or distress coming. And be sure we stop depending on ourselves or others for the answer.
God's answer is better for us and is the long term way to go. So prayer is always the best answer because we don't know Our Awesome God's mind or all the possible answers or the possible consequences. God does know what will work best for you and others around you. What you do will matter, whether it is your will or God's will. What God answers is important, so listen for His answer for your distress call, because He will answer.
Our Awesome God will answer in different ways so listen for a deep sense of peace when you think of a possible answer while praying and ask Him if that is what His answer is. His answer may be to just calm your troubled emotions or He may give you some creative ideas to prevent or overcome the problem. He may say, "Just wait for my guidance" (Proverbs 3:5-6). If you feel a sudden calm or peace it is probably from God.
Our Awesome God wants you to trust Him. Therefore, He wants you remember trouble or distress means a call to God. Prayer should be an important part of God's church, is it of your Church? If not, remember, God wants us to pray privately and as a church together. Pray!
