"And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings. And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it."
(Ezekiel 1:25-26 KJV)
Have you ever wondered as you read Ezekiel chapter 1, what Our Awesome God meant when He let Ezekiel see them "let down their wings"? People ask, "How can I hear the voice of the Lord?" This is the secret: those "living creatures" (Ezekiel 1:5) heard the voice of the Lord when they "let down their wings." So they waited for Him to speak.
Do you ever sit or kneel before Our Awesome God praying and realize your mind is not completely on the Lord and your prayer, you are "fluttering" because you are thinking other things or still hurrying to get on your knees? You are not STILL before the Lord and focused on Him, listening!
A friend said to me this very thing, "I prayed the other day about a certain request I had," she said "but I didn't wait for God's answer but went on my way as I was late." She did not wait or get STILL before the Lord, but did what she thought was the right thing - and it was a disaster. She spent the next two days cleaning up the mess she had made.
How much time do we spend repairing the damage we do by not waiting for Our Awesome God to give us the answer to our requests or instructions for our jobs for Him? Remove the worldly distractions between you and God or, "Let down your wings" before the Lord and be STILL. Focus on God while you wait and don't "lean on your own understanding." Allow Him time to answer you and give you peace. Your time will be well spent when it's with Him! So take the time to listen for the Lord and like the "living creatures," lower your wings.
Come join us at our church or join any church that preaches and teaches that Jesus Christ, who died for you and took your sins upon Himself and arose the third day, is now sitting by God, interceding for you when you sin. Our Awesome God wants you to "let down your wings" and listen to Him and learn more about Jesus Christ who is the only way to eternity with Him. Pray to see you soon!
LWBC is a Bible believing church that tries to live Jesus Christ's commandment to "love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12 KJV) Join us this Sunday as we learn more about Our Awesome God and teach others from His Holy Bible. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM (September through May). And there is more during the week. We love visitors!
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea."
(Revelation 21:1 KJV)
When looking for information about heaven, Our Awesome God's Bible seems to be cryptic. We stumble over word pictures of crowns, streets of gold, thrones, etc. All these images seem to be stumbling blocks or deterrents to our understanding heaven. The images are actually meant to be incentives. The word pictures of palms, crowns, streets of gold, thrones, seas of glass are symbols as used in our Holy Bible.
Joni Eareckson Tada once said, "One purpose of a symbol is to represent in a simple way a more complex action or idea." We need to remember that Our Awesome God often uses symbols to help us become curious about something such as heaven.
If we use the images of heaven given to us in Scripture as symbols, then we will be getting a partial view of heaven, "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face; …" (1 Corinthians 13:12 KJV). So heaven will be a blurred image of what it really is unless we use these symbols as incentives to look deeper into God’s Word.
It is also thought that, since Scripture is always comparing things in heaven to something we know here on earth, maybe heaven is indescribable. That possibly our language cannot come close to allowing we humans to understand what Paul saw in 2 Corinthians 12:2, the prophet Ezekiel in Ezekiel 1:26-28 or John in Revelation. But what a wonderful place they describe.
Our Awesome God has prepared for us a new adventure when we get to heaven. Join me on 6/23/15 for the next discussion on heaven called: #2 NEW Everything? Meanwhile, read the Book of Revelation and John's description of heaven. Pray to walk a little closer to Our Awesome God.
If you are a Christian who has strayed away from Our Awesome God or someone who has never been a Christian or a person who needs to help minister to others, join us at Living Word Baptist Church on Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study and at 10:30 AM for Worship Service. At 6:00 PM we have a Bible Study along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests, and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We welcome all people and love them!
