"Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee."
(Song of Solomon 8:5 KJV)
We all have something that causes us to want to lean on or get help from someone more knowledgeable, such as Our Awesome God. It may be something we know nothing about or have failed to overcome in the past, and we need someone to help us. Now, being a human, we don't want to admit that we are fearful of failure with this problem we have, so we try to get information from someone else without them knowing or we read up on the subject. In short, we do almost everything possible to keep from admitting we need help. Have you ever done that? Pride is awful!
Someone was praying the other day and they ended their prayer with "Oh, Lord help support us on every leaning side!" Immediately my attention was caught, this person was admitting they needed some help to keep them out of trouble. Their "leaning sides" needed support and he was admitting it by appropriately asking Our Awesome God for that support. This was a good person to know! And that name will be remembered!
Do you have a "leaning side?" Can you admit it and ask Our Awesome God for help? If you don't know God it is time you did. Seek a Holy Bible with no additions, such as a King James or a New King James Version, and a church that preaches and teaches that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. If we do know Him we should be spending more time on our knees asking God for help and then using the help that He provides, whether it is strength, providing a person more knowledgeable in the subject or giving you the knowledge in some other way, He will provide. God is our Father and He is waiting for us to stop struggling and just ask Him. He loves you! He is my beloved for it brings me peace and a warm feeling of love.
LWBC is a Bible believing church that tries to live Jesus Christ's commandment to "love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12 KJV) Join us this Sunday as we learn more about Our Awesome God and teach others from His Holy Bible. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Praise/Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. And there is more during the week. We love visitors!
"Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good."
(Romans 12:9 KJV)
"He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:"
(Proverbs 24:24 KJV)
Abhor means to Despise; spurn; regard with horror. Dictionary of Words from the King James Bible. Public Domain. Copy freely. New York, N.Y., 1999.
When the word "abhor" is used it has a strong meaning of rejection and horror that should make you sit up and pay attention to what is being said. We don't use the word much anymore. Is it because the world around us is trying to ignore the constant sinning against Our Awesome God they are doing? Are they rejecting Jesus Christ? Do they really have enough knowledge of Christ to reject Him?
Abhorring evil in your heart is the result of knowing Our Awesome God's saving grace and the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit in the sinner’s heart. Thus the end result is that the sinner, now a saint, abhors evil. Evil is repugnant to him. The Christian hates it because he realizes how much Jesus Christ paid for him to be free from sin and that he will still sin again, even if he doesn't want to. We know that we hate sin because we love God.
If we ever cease to abhor evil, ours or others, then how are we able to know we are right with Our Awesome God? Proverbs 8:13 in the KJV says "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate." Yes, we should know when we sin and backslide. Do our worldly brothers and sisters know enough about Jesus Christ to be able to reject Him? Have we explained to them Our Awesome God and our need to stop sinning by obeying God's laws?
Our Awesome God wants us to love our family, friends and neighbors enough to tell them about Jesus Christ and the rewarding salvation He offers to all who will accept Him. LWBC is a loving church who tries to live by Biblical principles while encouraging all its members. Join us for church this coming Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study. We have Worship Service in the Sanctuary at 10:30 AM and Sunday evening Bible Study at 6:00 PM with a children's program called AWANA until 7:30 PM. Our programs are varied but we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. We love visitors!
"Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied."
(1 Samuel 17:45 KJV)
King Saul of Israel, of Our Awesome God's chosen people, had been fighting tooth and nail for every inch of the Promised Land since becoming king. Even though the land was "Promised," it did not come easy when you don't ask for God's help. (Most promised lands are that way - we have to work and struggle for them.)
Lately, the Philistines had been gaining the upper hand against Our Awesome God's people. King Saul was getting older and very weary. The Philistines unveiled their "secret weapon" - a nine foot nine giant named Goliath. This powerful, fearsome man was out daily taunting the Israelites, issuing a challenge that had King Saul's army cringing behind their shields. There wasn't a soldier in the camp who wanted to take on Goliath. Fear and despair took hold in the camp and ate away the courage of every last man. Each day Goliath looked bigger and the soldiers of Saul felt smaller and they were not asking God for help.
We all have an intimidating giant that bothers us whether we belong to Our Awesome God or not. It may relate to our job, a relationship, a parent, or our school. Giants keep changing according to our circumstances. Maybe your giant is a spirit of worry and fear that shouts across your valley every day – day after day. Perhaps you don’t even know what lies across the valley. Maybe you can’t get a handle on what that giant is, but it’s haunting you.
What giants try to stand in your way today if you are a child of Our Awesome God? Name them. Write them down. Think about how the giants of circumstance and opposition have combined to keep you enslaved to fear and sometimes have driven you almost to the brink of despair. How much longer will you hide in the rocks of fear? When are you going to step into the valley and face the giant eyeball to eyeball?
Once you have taken that first step into the valley and toward the giant, your faith increases and the next step is easier. Our Awesome God, in His infinite wisdom, knows you need to take that first step before He increases your faith in Him and gives you victory over the giants in your life. Our Awesome God is there to fight with you and for you because that fight is His also. God will bless you with victory!
We (as a church) want all people in church, worshipping Our Awesome God with faith and obedience every Sunday. If you are not yet a Christian, it is time that you should know and love Our Awesome God as your Creator and Savior. Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we pray and worship Him this Sunday at 10:30 AM and at 6:00 PM for Bible Study with AWANA for children. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests, and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
"And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."
(Luke 24:38-39 KJV)
When talking about doubt, a good choice of advice for common sense is Dr. Charles Stanley who wrote in his Life Principles Bible a short comment about "Nagging Doubt", page 1227. Dr. Stanley says:
"...A first step to defuse doubt is to determine its origin. Begin by asking yourself if your feelings of doubt have a legitimate basis. Many times we struggle with thoughts and feelings that have no validity.
"Second, reading God's Word is a great way to combat fear and doubt. A daily reading program will show you many ways to handle doubt. The Book of Psalms highlights many personal battles over emotions such as fear, doubt, loneliness, and discouragement. David and others made a conscious decision to trust the Lord through tremendously difficult circumstances and found that God never once failed them.
"Prayer is also essential in fighting fear and doubt. In essence, prayer is faith in action. When we pray, regardless of whether we feel like it, we make a statement of faith. We pray because we see God as the solution to what we face. ...
"Always be honest with God. He knows it all anyway. Honesty breaks the pattern of doubt. The last thing Satan wants you to do is to go to God in prayer and tell Him you feel doubtful. He knows that God loves you with an eternal love and that if you come to Him for help, He will give you all the assistance you need."
Get to know Our Awesome God better by reading His Holy Word and test anything you doubt by looking it up in Scripture. Pray and ask Him to show you the way to overcome your doubts. God's Word says, "Seek and you shall find..." (Matthew 7:7 KJV)
We all need to be in a church that reads the Bible, prays and preaches that Jesus, the Son of God, died for your sins and rose on the third day, a church that encourages you to become more Christlike every day. Our Awesome God can be found in this type church and doubts soon leave if you follow Dr. Charles Stanley's suggestions and you listen carefully to the sermons. I hope to see you in heaven if not before!
If you are a Christian who has strayed away from Our Awesome God or someone who has never been a Christian or a person who needs to help minister to others, join us at Living Word Baptist Church on Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study and at 10:30 AM for Worship Service. At 6:00 PM we have a Bible Study along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests, and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We welcome all people and love them!
