"For the Lord's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye... So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him."
(Deuteronomy 32:9 -10, 12 KJV)
Jacob had many difficulties, often of his own making, as recorded in Genesis chapters 27 to 37. But he was faithful to Our Awesome God, who had chosen him to become the father of His chosen people and protected him and helped him overcome all of his difficulties.
Our Awesome God is also our parent. In order to teach us a necessary truth, He will lead us to the problem and push us into solving it. We forget He is right there watching and, if we ask, He will help us. We may not realize that when we, with His help, have solved the problem, we will possess an inexplicable power and confidence that we can acquire only through doing it with His help.
God may take away your comfortable life and privileges so that you will be a stronger Christian. He may be pushing you to learn how to handle certain difficulties, to realize your strengths and weaknesses in a situation and to remember that, when Our Awesome God puts you in a difficult position, He will be there to rescue you if needed. But some things in life have to be experienced so that you will have a stronger faith in God and the knowledge of what is at least a good way out that honors God.
We often say that we are having difficulties or even that Satan is bothering us but it may just be Our Awesome God making us more mature Christians. He loves us and wants us able to handle most situations, as any father would. He has a purpose and a job for you to do in life as well as in heaven. Are you confident that God and you can handle any difficulty?
If you are not confident that Our Awesome God and you can handle all your difficulties then get ready for more testing. Most of the human race needs many problems to teach him or her to solve problems in God's way: asking our Lord to help. Praise the Lord for difficulties!
Becoming confident and trusting in Our Lord needs to start with your becoming a Christian if you aren't. Then check the Bible to realize all the laws you have broken and that Jesus Christ came to earth as a man to save you from having to pay for breaking those laws. A Christian is just a saved sinner. Become a Christian by repenting of those sins and accepting Our Awesome God's gift of life.

"I have loved you, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord: yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness."
(Malachi 1:2-3 KJV)
Malachi, Our Awesome God's prophet, prophesied about 450 BC in Israel. He was one of the last inspired prophets before the 400-year lull in divine revelation between the Old Testament and Jesus Christ. The Israelites had returned from the Babylonian exile. Jerusalem had been rebuilt, and the temple restored. But the people had not learned their lesson from the exile. They avoided idols but they had grown skeptical of God's love (1:2), careless in worship (1:7), indifferent to the truth (2:6–7), faithless in their marriages (2:15; 3:5), and stingy in their offerings (3:8). To this carnal and rebellious people God sent his messenger, Malachi, and the first message he put on his lips was, "I have loved you, says the Lord!"
Why would Our Awesome God send this message? God had chosen Jacob, a younger brother, over the elder brother (Esau), who should have inherited and Jacob had been deceitful to get the full blessing. Yet God knows everything from the beginning to the end and God chose Jacob for His own. We only know " ...yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau..." The full truth we will learn in heaven, but we need to consider our society which shows faithless marriages, carelessness in worship and indifference to the truth of there being Our Awesome God who loves us.
Or does that love from God make you tremble? Isaiah 66:2 says, "...to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." Have you learned the love of God in a way that makes you tremble? Malachi's burden in his book is to show us a God whose goodness makes us tremble with reverent fear. It should humble us. It should make us tremble!
"A love that makes you tremble" is possibly the reason Our Awesome God chose you to become a Christian and love Him. Join us in church this coming Sunday. God is waiting for you! He Loves You!
LWBC is a Bible believing church that tries to live Jesus Christ's commandment to "love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12 KJV) Join us for church this coming Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study. We have Worship Service in the Sanctuary at 10:30 AM and Sunday evening Bible Study at 6:00 PM along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. Our programs are varied but we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. We love visitors!
"And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi."
(Genesis 29:34 KJV)
Levi was the third son of Jacob and Leah from Our Awesome God's chosen people. Leah was still concerned about getting Jacob to love her so the Scripture above tells some of her words, but her father had tricked Jacob when they were married and Jacob probably never loved her. Levi, with his brother, Simeon, killed a man and all his relatives who lived close when they got angry over the rape of their sister, Dinah. Jacob said they made him "stink" when he described it in Genesis 34:30.
From Levi, Jacob's third son, came the Levites who were dedicated to Our Awesome God's service. As such, they were later not treated as the other tribes in that the Tribe of Levi was not given a separate allotment of land during the conquest of Canaan, when the nation of Israel was first established. Moses had singled out the Tribe of Levi to serve as the nation's priests. This tribe served all positions in the temple from the High Priest, to musicians, to cleaning the instruments of the tabernacle, to lighting of incense (Luke 1:9) until the temple was destroyed in 70 AD. As priests to the nation, the Levites needed to be distributed among the other tribes rather than confined to a single territory.
Instead of a land allotment, Joshua, who led the conquest of Canaan, gave 48 towns, scattered throughout the land of Israel, to the Tribe of Levi. The descendants of Levi played a role in guarding and serving the tabernacle (Numbers 3:21-37) and later on in the temple at Jerusalem.
Our Awesome God established the tribe of Levi as the principal agents for communication with God in the nation of Israel. They were to lead the nation to be a kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:6) in teaching the rest of the world about God. Instead, for 1500 years they made access to Our Awesome God so difficult that few would even attempt it. He didn't really give up on them, but God also gave the Gentiles the chance to become His adopted sons through the death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. You can become a son of Our Awesome God who loves you and knows your many sins as He does my sins. If God can forgive the many sins of the Tribe of Levi, He can forgive your sins.
We invite you to our church services for Our Awesome God on Sunday mornings (9:30 AM) and Worship Service at (10:30 AM). Then again Sunday evening (6:00 PM) for Bible Study along with AWANA for children which goes until 7:30 PM. Wednesday evening (7:00 PM) we have a Prayer Meeting and Bible Study along with the Youth Group. When you come, ask about the choir and Prayer Team. We love visitors!
"Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright. For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's:)"
(1 Chronicles 5:1-2 KJV)
To be an Israelite (Our Awesome God's chosen people) by blood, a person must be a descendent of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Reuben was an Israelite. He was also the first born son of Jacob. The 12 sons of Jacob are the patriarchs of the 12 Tribes of Israel.
There was a "contest?" between Jacob's two wives; Leah (the unloved wife) and her sister, Rachel (the loved wife). So Leah was the mother of the first born, Reuben. "And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, "Surely the Lord hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me" (Genesis 29:32 KJV).
As the first born son, Reuben was in line to receive the birthright. However, in Our Awesome God's Holy Bible is written, "And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: (Genesis 35:22 KJV). This sin, disrespected God and Jacob, his father, cost him his birthright and, near the time of his death in Egypt, Jacob described each of his sons. His words for Reuben were: "Reuben, thou are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power. Unstable as water, thou shall not excel; because you went up to thy father's bed; then you defiledst it: He went up to my couch." (Genesis 49:3-4 KJV). Here was a man who came from Our Awesome God's chosen people and he wasted it in the sins he committed until he lost his birthright. Then he caused his family to sin with his inability to control his anger and to control his sons. But God used him to build up and protect His people from their enemies by giving him strength (1 Chronicles 5:18).
Our Awesome God can and does use us to further His purpose. But if we could learn His Will a little faster than Reuben did, it might help the entire human race to arrive at God's purpose sooner.

"All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them."
(Genesis 49:28 KJV)
Here are a few facts about Isaac's son, Jacob (Israel). Jacob was one of the great patriarchs of the Old Testament, but at times he was also a schemer, liar, and manipulator. Our Awesome God gave him twelve sons. At one time, Jacob even wrestled with an angel because the angel wouldn't give him what he wanted and he walked with a limp after (Genesis 32:24-32). After wrestling all night, God renamed him Israel, which means, "he struggles with God." In fact, Jacob struggled with God his entire life, as many of us do. As he matured in faith, Jacob depended on God more and more.
Jacob or Israel needed Our Awesome God frequently as Jacob's sons matured and increased in number. These twelve men were slowly becoming the men God would work through to produce the Twelve Tribes of Israel. They were always doing something they shouldn't have done (1 Chronicles 5:1-2; Genesis 34:25). They were jealous of each other and often hated each other, especially Joseph (Genesis 37:5-8). Reuben lost his birthright because he slept with his father's concubine. Judah slept with his daughter-in-law but kings came from his tribe (Genesis 38:25-26). Levi was the son that produced the priests for God and they sinned. All the sons, like their father, sinned many times and were a heart ache to Jacob and God.
These were the men Our Awesome God chose to become founders of the twelve tribes of Israel that made up His chosen people. Just like we sin, they sinned (remember, God views all sins as equal). But God can and will use sinners for His purposes. He prefers to use His obedient people (who are forgiven sinners), but He does not hesitate to use pagans and atheists. We need to fully understand: His purpose will be done. Are we going to help Him or are we going to slow up our maturity in Christ as sinning always does?
We (as a church) want all people in church, worshipping Our Awesome God with faith and obedience every Sunday. If you are not yet a Christian, it is time that you should know and love Our Awesome God as your Creator and Savior. Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we pray and worship Him this Sunday at 10:30 AM and at 6:00 PM for Bible Study along with AWANA for children 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
"And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; "
(Genesis 15:13 KJV)
At the age of 75 years, Abraham left Haran and started wandering where Our Awesome God led him to go. He was past the age where Sarah (his wife) could bear a child and yet, God told him his descendants would inherit the earth and he believed God. Abraham traveled through and in the land of Canaan the rest of his his life, expecting God to provide a peaceful home.
Soon after Abraham rescued his nephew, Lot, he became concerned about not having children. Then he had a vision while dreaming in which Our Awesome God told him the Scripture above. In the vision, God assured Abraham that he would be protected from conflict. The seed of Abraham was to be from his own body and would endure affliction and slavery with persecution for 400 years. Then God would miraculously rescue them from their persecution. But just when did the 400 years begin?
Abraham's first-born son was Ishmael but Isaac was the "child of promise." When Isaac was almost 5 years old and Ishmael was 20, it was necessary to decide who would inherit. Abraham held a great feast for Isaac's birthday but Ishmael was disrespectful. So Ishmael was sent away and Isaac became the heir of Abraham. The day Isaac was 5 years old, he was confirmed by God as heir and it was exactly 400 years later that the Exodus out of Egypt began.
400 years after Abraham's feast, on the same day, the 15th of Aviv, Our Awesome God brought the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob out of Egypt. If we follow the chronology, we see that, besides Joseph, the Israelites were only in Lower Egypt for 215 years before they became slaves. The four generations, mentioned by God, are traced through the tribe of Levi who entered Egypt with the other sons of Israel during the years of famine. Our Awesome God has done it again! God created the world. All that is in it will do as and when He wills it, including captivity. Praise the Lord! He always has a purpose and it will happen.
Learn more about Our Awesome God by reading His Holy Bible, praying to Him and worshipping in a church which preaches and teaches the Holy Bible. Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we pray and worship Him this Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study and 10:30 AM for worship Service, then again at 6:00 PM for Bible Study. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and Bible Study. First, it is time that you should know and love Our Awesome God as your creator and Savior. We can show you how from the Word of God and we love visitors.
"And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob."
(Genesis 25:33 KJV)
In the Bible, Our Awesome God had Moses write that Jacob was a son of Isaac and Rebekah, a grandson of Abraham and Sarah, and the younger twin brother of Esau. Jacob had twelve sons and at least one daughter by his two wives, Leah and Rachel, and by their female slaves Bilhah and Zilpah. The sons named in Genesis became the twelve tribes of Israel with God's help.
Our Awesome God knew that Jacob took advantage of the weakness of his brother, Esau (Genesis 25:29-34). Ordinarily one would expect a brother to be more than happy to give aid, but in this case, that help would come at a terrible price. The birthright carried the exclusive right of inheritance belonging to the first-born. Esau, in a moment of carelessness and craving, gave up something very valuable, his birthright.
Over 500 years later, Our Awesome God would say, "Thou shalt not covet..." (Exodus 20:17 KJV), but we sadly still do many similar things today. We want what our brother has. This transaction of Jacob shows the greedy, selfish spirit that Jacob had at this time and that God would have to teach him to overcome. Read Genesis 25: 22-34 and then Genesis 27 to Exodus 1:8.
Our Awesome God wants us to learn from this story of Jacob. It is a valuable lesson for our lives today. Instead of taking advantage of others, we are to receive and support the weak. God wants us to learn that we don't take advantage of others just because we can. Our love for God and others requires us to do things for their good and not our own. When God places a story in His Holy Bible, it is there for a purpose, so read it carefully.
It is the purpose of Our Awesome God that we use our time here on earth to overcome our tendency to be like Jacob, who showed a greedy, deceitful spirit, and to follow Jesus Christ's example of love for our neighbors as ourselves. It took all of Jacob's life to overcome his sins and it may take us that long to be true children of God. But think of what we will gain, God's love and care, a purpose for our lives on earth and in eternity, knowledge of how and why we should do things and the peace of living with God and loving Him.
Join us at LWBC every Sunday at 9:30 AM, we have small group Bible Studies and at 10:30 AM, we meet in the sanctuary for Worship Service. Our programs include AWANA and a Prayer Team on Wednesday at 7:00 PM but are varied as we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible. We love visitors and practice the "love one another" commandment to all.
