"In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel,(became governor of Judah during the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem) my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of hosts."
(Haggai 2:23 KJV)
Our Awesome God has a purpose in all He does and He carefully chooses who He will use to further His purposes. The first one we know of called by God was Abram (Genesis 12:1-3) when at the age of 75 years with no children, he was told to go to a land God would show him and God would make a "great nation" of his children.
This man wandered through and around Caanan for 100 years while God prepared him and the situation for the children of his new name, Abraham. He increased his faith, his patience and learned to trust God completely. He was God's choice.
Reuben was Jacob's oldest son and he should have inherited the covenant, but instead, God chose Judah. Now, Reuben sinned (Genesis 49:3-4) but so did Judah. However, Our Awesome God was obviously looking at the hearts of these men. He might have wanted them to be teachable, to listen when He spoke, be obedient, to love Him and to be softhearted. Judah was God's choice (Genesis 49:8-10).
Daniel, once a prince of Judah, was taken captive to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar and there he served God in several ways. But why him? There were many captives from Judah that God could have used but this man interpreted dreams for God, ruled seven years for Nebuchadnezzar, prayed and worshipped Our Awesome God, etc. (Daniel 19:2). Daniel was God's choice. He saw his heart and knew he was the one who would best do the job He wanted done.
Zerubbabel is the only person in the Bible that God told, "I have chosen you." (Haggai 2:23) He had been made governor of Judah during the reconstruction of the temple and the walls of Jerusalem. To learn more about Zerubbabel, read the Book in the Bible: Haggai.
God is still looking for people who have the characteristics He is looking for; teachable, softhearted, listens, and is obedient to Our Awesome God. Are you one of His children? Do you have the characteristics He needs in a leader? Because He will supply the strength, wisdom and anything else you need to get the job done.
Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and a Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour with a children's program called AWANA until 7:30 PM. (September through May). On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and Bible Study along with a separate Spanish Bible Study until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
"And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord : even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord."
(2 Chronicles 20:3, 4 KJV)
King Jehoshaphat feared and knew he couldn't stop the coming enemies so he "set himself to seek the Lord" immediately. He knew only that Our Awesome God could stop these people so he declared a fast. He was determined to hear from the Lord!
What do you do first, when you find yourself in trouble? Go get advice from your neighbor? Tell your boss? The first thing you should do is get on your knees and ask help from Our Awesome God. If your neighbor or your boss has the answer, God will send you to him like He had Cornelius send for Peter (Acts 10). We should make it a habit to run to the Lord when we see trouble coming. And be sure we stop depending on ourselves or others for the answer. God's answer is better for us and is the long term way to go. So prayer is always the best answer because we don't know Our Awesome God's mind nor all the possible answers or the possible consequences. God does know what will work best for you and others around you. What you do will matter, whether it is your will or God's will. What God answers is important, so listen for His answer to your distress call, because He will answer.
Our Awesome God will answer in different ways so listen for a deep sense of peace when you think of a possible answer while praying and ask Him if that is what His answer is. His answer may be to just calm your troubled emotions or He may give you some creative ideas to prevent or overcome the problem. He may say, "just wait for my guidance" (Proverbs 3:5-6). If you feel a sudden calm or peace it is probably from God.
Our Awesome God wants you to trust Him. Therefore, He wants you remember Trouble Equals Prayer. Prayer should be an important part of God's church, is it of your Church? If not, remember, God wants us to pray privately and as a church together. Pray!
If you are a Christian who has strayed away from Our Awesome God or someone who has never been a Christian or a person who needs to help minister to others, join us at Living Word Baptist Church on Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study and at 10:30 AM for Praise and Worship Service. At 6:00 PM Sunday evening, we have a Bible Study along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We welcome all people and love them.
"The word of the Lord which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah (Hezekiah), in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah"
(Zephaniah 1:1 KJV)
Zephaniah was a minor prophet of our God only because he didn't write 50 chapters like the Major Prophets did. There are 12 Minor Prophets in the Old Testament of our Bibles, but there’s nothing minor about Zephaniah or what he has to say. This man, used by Our Awesome God, helped reform and a revival to sweep the nation of Israel at the time of King Josiah's reign (640-609 BC). Zephaniah was a great grandson of Hezekiah, making him part of the royal family and a third cousin to King Josiah.
Everyone was sure that, with a good king such as Josiah on the throne, Our Awesome God would forgive them. But Zephaniah stood up and said, "NO, judgment will happen and cannot be stopped. God's judgment is coming, it will be swift, it will be complete, it will be for all. And there is nothing that can be done to prevent it." He preached this before Judah was taken into captivity, so very few paid any attention to him!
Verse 2 of Zephaniah 1 says, "I will utterly consume everything from the face of the land" says the Lord."' You cannot get more complete than that. All will be judged everything and all will be consumed. Read all of the Book of Zephaniah. The judgment is on God's chosen people, on the kings, rulers, the religions, the indifferent, the lazy, the complacent, EVERYTHING!
Zephaniah’s message was to the Jews in the kingdom of Judah and was fulfilled in the Babylonian captivity. Their hope was in God’s promise of repatriation in the next generation. Likewise, some day the people of this world will be judged by Jesus Christ, Our Awesome God's chosen judge. But hope for our people today is found in Jesus Christ and our belief and obedience to His commandments. Hope for our world is not in stopping judgment, judgment is coming. What we need to do is seek refuge in Our Awesome God's Son, Jesus Christ. Read Zephaniah 1:7-8, 14-15. Our Awesome God has decided to take all things through judgment to salvation. Seek refuge and shelter in Jesus Christ, for He will be pleased to hide another. Repent!
Who do you know who needs to know Jesus Christ and Him crucified? Tell them about our Lord and bring them to our church or attend a church that preaches and teaches that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin.
LWBC is a Bible believing church that tries to live Jesus Christ's commandment to "love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12 KJV) Join us this Sunday as we learn more about Our Awesome God and teach others from His Holy Bible. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Praise/Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. And there is more during the week. We love visitors!
