"Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein."
(Jeremiah 6:16 KJV)
How many faulty humans have problems that are called the three H's, "hurts, hang-ups and/or habits"? We all do and we are enablers of them, sometimes. We all have character defects that cause us to sin against Our Awesome God, others and ourselves. We have character defects such as denial which is a self protecting behavior that keeps us from honestly facing the truth, fear, dishonesty which is lying, cheating or stealing, not upright in our dealings with people, greed, false pride, hate, anger, gossiping, hoarding, criticizing, over scheduling our lives, and sarcasm are a few. But there are many more defects that we use to keep us from stopping and analyzing why we do things that are not pleasing to God.
We can deny that we feel or do any of the character defects for years but we know our relationship with Our Awesome God is not as good as it should be if we do. Eventually, God slows us up and we realize we have a bad habit to overcome if we are to mature as Christians. Even though we are Christians, we have sinned against God and others by ignoring those character defects. We need God's help to stop and get out of denial and our "hang-ups". But if you don't believe in Our Awesome God, you need to learn more about Him and His Salvation because to permanently get rid of these hurts, hang-ups and habits, both the Christian and the non-Christian are going to need God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
You may say you don't do any of these sins but do you help or enable others to do any of these things? Find a Celebrate Recovery Program to understand how you can actually help these people and/or yourself overcome these problems and get closer to Our Awesome God.
LWBC is a Bible believing, encouraging church that tries to live Jesus Christ's commandment to "love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12 KJV) Join us this Sunday as we learn more about Our Awesome God and teach others from His Holy Bible. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Praise/Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. And there is more during the week. Our God is an Awesome God! READ our website 9/05/15 for #2 Our Denial. We love visitors!
"And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob."
(Genesis 25:33 KJV)
In the Bible, Our Awesome God had Moses write that Jacob was a son of Isaac and Rebekah, a grandson of Abraham and Sarah, and the younger twin brother of Esau. Jacob had twelve sons and at least one daughter by his two wives, Leah and Rachel, and by their female slaves Bilhah and Zilpah. The sons named in Genesis became the twelve tribes of Israel with God's help.
Our Awesome God knew that Jacob took advantage of the weakness of his brother, Esau (Genesis 25:29-34). Ordinarily one would expect a brother to be more than happy to give aid, but in this case, that help would come at a terrible price. The birthright carried the exclusive right of inheritance belonging to the first-born. Esau, in a moment of carelessness and craving, gave up something very valuable, his birthright.
Over 500 years later, Our Awesome God would say, "Thou shalt not covet..." (Exodus 20:17 KJV), but we sadly still do many similar things today. We want what our brother has. This transaction of Jacob shows the greedy, selfish spirit that Jacob had at this time and that God would have to teach him to overcome. Read Genesis 25: 22-34 and then Genesis 27 to Exodus 1:8.
Our Awesome God wants us to learn from this story of Jacob. It is a valuable lesson for our lives today. Instead of taking advantage of others, we are to receive and support the weak. God wants us to learn that we don't take advantage of others just because we can. Our love for God and others requires us to do things for their good and not our own. When God places a story in His Holy Bible, it is there for a purpose, so read it carefully.
It is the purpose of Our Awesome God that we use our time here on earth to overcome our tendency to be like Jacob, who showed a greedy, deceitful spirit, and to follow Jesus Christ's example of love for our neighbors as ourselves. It took all of Jacob's life to overcome his sins and it may take us that long to be true children of God. But think of what we will gain, God's love and care, a purpose for our lives on earth and in eternity, knowledge of how and why we should do things and the peace of living with God and loving Him.
Join us at LWBC every Sunday at 9:30 AM, we have small group Bible Studies and at 10:30 AM, we meet in the sanctuary for Worship Service. Our programs include AWANA and a Prayer Team on Wednesday at 7:00 PM but are varied as we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible. We love visitors and practice the "love one another" commandment to all.
