"Therefore now, Lord, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said."
(1 Chronicles 17:23 KJV)
The above Scripture was prayed by David and was one of those encouraging times when he could say to God, "You promised." It is beautiful and inspiring when we can put our fingers on a promise that Our Awesome God has made concerning a prayer request we have made. Most times, we wonder what God really wants and whether our prayer is within His purpose. Or another way of saying it is, "Am I praying in the right way for this prayer to be blessed by God?"
There are few things that feel as good as putting your finger on a Scripture Verse and saying, "You promised, Father." And yet, we have to remember that the promise may have been made under different circumstances, often for a different reason and in a different time period. We need to be careful what we think Our Awesome God has promised to do and for whom. Check what you know about the promise and ask Him if it applies when you pray. He loves you, He'll listen to you. He always does and He knows your voice! And He answers all prayers.
Be sure our Father God knows how you feel about the prayer request. So if you feel as some do, that every promise of Scripture is a letter from God which we may plead before Him with this reasonable request: "Do as you promised, Lord," you can be sure Our Awesome God knows. I know that God will do the right thing though I may tell Him what I would like Him to do.
Our church has a Prayer Team that is always in need of members. We would love to find new members to enlarge our Team. Come join us in our church as we become more active in changing lives and presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ to others. We always need Christian teachers and new ideas in presenting Our Awesome God to others. We are a church that preaches and teaches that Jesus Christ died for you and took your sins upon Himself and arose the third day and is now sitting by God, interceding for you when you sin.
Join us at LWBC every Sunday at 9:30 AM, we have small group Bible Studies and at 10:30 AM, we meet in the sanctuary for Worship Service. Sunday evening at 6:00 PM we have Bible Study along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM (September through May). On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and Bible Study along with a separate Spanish Bible Study until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
"And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud".
(Exodus 16:10 KJV)
When a storm of life is coming and you have prayed, lift your eyes to the clouds and look for the silver lining. Get in the habit of looking for it. We know Our Awesome God has provided it and will always help if we ask, for He has a purpose for each person. The approaching storm may have dark ominous edges with flashes of lightening and growling thunder, but they have that silver lining somewhere. We want to focus on the good (silver lining) God will provide, not the looming problems we see ahead because God has promised to help us through them.
A distressed person is a helpless person if the stress is great enough. It leaves one open to Satan's snares (Ephesians 6:11 KJV). So be swift to turn your back on it and look up Scripture verses that pertain to it (Isaiah 41:10). Hang onto Our Awesome God's promises of help. Look for that silver lining that God has provided for you. Pray; as the greater distress you have, the deeper you get into Satan's territory. So run to our Father God who loves you, bringing your requests to His throne and seek His power for relief. Jesus Christ has the power on Earth not man.
Then as you take each of those specific promises of God, claim them as yours and turn away from your stress. Lean on Our Awesome God and you will find your faith is stronger, your trust is greatly improved, you are ready to depend on Him to overcome your distress and peace is slowly taking it away. Now you can think more clearly and, with Our Awesome God helping you, Satan will flee.
We need to remember in times of stress and doubt that God has a plan, a purpose, for each of us and the power to give us help when we need it. But you have to ask and believe. Look always for that silver lining in the clouds for it is there. Once you overcome your distress with God's help, the second time is easier. You will know what to do and you will know that it will be overcome by Our Awesome God.
LWBC is a loving church who tries to live by Biblical principles while encouraging all its members. Join us for church in the Sanctuary this coming Sunday at 10:30 AM. We also have Bible Study on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Sunday evening at 6:00 PM we have an hour of Bible Study and AWANA clubs for children which go until 7:30 PM. Our programs are varied but we teach and preach from Our Awesome God's Holy Bible that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. We love visitors!
"The word of the Lord which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah (Hezekiah), in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah"
(Zephaniah 1:1 KJV)
Zephaniah was a minor prophet of our God only because he didn't write 50 chapters like the Major Prophets did. There are 12 Minor Prophets in the Old Testament of our Bibles, but there’s nothing minor about Zephaniah or what he has to say. This man, used by Our Awesome God, helped reform and a revival to sweep the nation of Israel at the time of King Josiah's reign (640-609 BC). Zephaniah was a great grandson of Hezekiah, making him part of the royal family and a third cousin to King Josiah.
Everyone was sure that, with a good king such as Josiah on the throne, Our Awesome God would forgive them. But Zephaniah stood up and said, "NO, judgment will happen and cannot be stopped. God's judgment is coming, it will be swift, it will be complete, it will be for all. And there is nothing that can be done to prevent it." He preached this before Judah was taken into captivity, so very few paid any attention to him!
Verse 2 of Zephaniah 1 says, "I will utterly consume everything from the face of the land" says the Lord."' You cannot get more complete than that. All will be judged everything and all will be consumed. Read all of the Book of Zephaniah. The judgment is on God's chosen people, on the kings, rulers, the religions, the indifferent, the lazy, the complacent, EVERYTHING!
Zephaniah’s message was to the Jews in the kingdom of Judah and was fulfilled in the Babylonian captivity. Their hope was in God’s promise of repatriation in the next generation. Likewise, some day the people of this world will be judged by Jesus Christ, Our Awesome God's chosen judge. But hope for our people today is found in Jesus Christ and our belief and obedience to His commandments. Hope for our world is not in stopping judgment, judgment is coming. What we need to do is seek refuge in Our Awesome God's Son, Jesus Christ. Read Zephaniah 1:7-8, 14-15. Our Awesome God has decided to take all things through judgment to salvation. Seek refuge and shelter in Jesus Christ, for He will be pleased to hide another. Repent!
Who do you know who needs to know Jesus Christ and Him crucified? Tell them about our Lord and bring them to our church or attend a church that preaches and teaches that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin.
LWBC is a Bible believing church that tries to live Jesus Christ's commandment to "love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12 KJV) Join us this Sunday as we learn more about Our Awesome God and teach others from His Holy Bible. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Praise/Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. And there is more during the week. We love visitors!
"And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold."
(Genesis 13:2 KJV)
"And he said, I am Abraham's servant. And the Lord hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses."
(Genesis 24:34-35 KJV)
"In Israel, the measure of a person's wealth consisted mostly of flocks, herds and slaves." From, "Acquiring Wealth in the Ancient Near East," by Claude F. Mariottini for the Biblical Illustrator, Summer 2013 edition, page 12. Our Awesome God didn't provide minted coins or printed currency. Riches weren't measured in dollars or rubles but were measured by what they owned. "Abraham was a rich man because he had many 'sheep and cattle, silver and gold, male and female slaves, and camels and donkeys.' (Genesis 24:35 NASB). Esau took his cattle and livestock and moved away from his brother Jacob because their wealth was too great for them to live together (Genesis 36:6-8 NASB). Job had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred donkeys, and many servants (Job 1:3 KJV).
“To preserve and protect their wealth, people needed a large retinue. Job had ‘a very large number of servants’ (Job 1:3 NASB). Abraham had 318 men born in his house (Genesis 14:14 NASB). These men, who probably were free-born servants and slaves working for Abraham. had fathers and mothers, wives and children. Thus Abraham's retinue possibly numbered more than one thousand people..." Excerpted from ibid.
So the patriarchs had riches but owned no land. Our Awesome God had promised He would give their descendants the rich and fertile land of Canaan for the large herds and flocks He would also give them. Two hundred fifty years later, these people were ready to settle down and serve God. But after they got their land, they never became, as He wanted, His priests for the world of unbelievers.
In America, we are all rich by the world's standards. If we are Christians why aren't we doing more to tell the world about Our Awesome God? We should be telling other nations and each other about our God, not doing less to further His Kingdom every year. Our spiritual and financial riches become less every year and we too may disappear as Israel did from 70 AD until 1948 AD. Our purpose is to tell the world about Jesus Christ's salvation.
Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we pray and worship Him this Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study and 10:30 AM for worship Service. Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, we meet for Bible Study along with children's AWANA clubs which go until 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests and Bible Study. We love children!
"Wait on the Lord : be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord."
(Psalms 27:14 KJV)
"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
(Jeremiah 33:3 KJV)
Life is full of decisions we must make. Our Awesome God has promised to help us make wise decisions. He wants us to ask Him, being as detailed as we can, while letting Him make the final decision. If you don't intend to follow God's advice, don't ask Him, because He will know you won't do as He advises. It is always a good idea to see what the Bible says on your subject. You need to know how God usually answers a request such as yours. Pray about it! Then prepare yourself because Our Awesome God wants you to ask so He can answer.
There are several things to do: 1) Confess all your sins you haven't already asked God to forgive (1 John 1:9), 2) submit yourself to His decision (1 Peter 5:6), 3) believe that God will give you your request (Mark 11: 22), 4) Ask according to His will for your request to be done (1 John 5:14,15) and then 5) wait for His answer, it will come but we don't know when. Be sure to thank Him and Praise Him for His answer!
Our Awesome God wants to guide you through the snares of life on earth, that is why He put you here. God put that snare there or allowed it to be there for a purpose, to help you. When God answers, you should feel great peace and confidence in knowing God is guiding you. It is possible that no one else will agree with your decision but, if you did what God told you -- what does it matter what others think? If He says it, do it, just be sure He answered and it is not your wants. God knows what will work best.
The ultimate purpose we should be seeking is Our Awesome God guiding us in every decision we make for all eternity. We need His wisdom, His knowledge, His mercy for all, His grace, His patience, His faithfulness and His love. When we get His guidance, we know we are doing what He wants and that He will have the correct way for us to go. Praise Him and thank Him!

"Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied."
(1 Samuel 17:45 KJV)
King Saul of Israel, of Our Awesome God's chosen people, had been fighting tooth and nail for every inch of the Promised Land since becoming king. Even though the land was "Promised," it did not come easy when you don't ask for God's help. (Most promised lands are that way - we have to work and struggle for them.)
Lately, the Philistines had been gaining the upper hand against Our Awesome God's people. King Saul was getting older and very weary. The Philistines unveiled their "secret weapon" - a nine foot nine giant named Goliath. This powerful, fearsome man was out daily taunting the Israelites, issuing a challenge that had King Saul's army cringing behind their shields. There wasn't a soldier in the camp who wanted to take on Goliath. Fear and despair took hold in the camp and ate away the courage of every last man. Each day Goliath looked bigger and the soldiers of Saul felt smaller and they were not asking God for help.
We all have an intimidating giant that bothers us whether we belong to Our Awesome God or not. It may relate to our job, a relationship, a parent, or our school. Giants keep changing according to our circumstances. Maybe your giant is a spirit of worry and fear that shouts across your valley every day – day after day. Perhaps you don’t even know what lies across the valley. Maybe you can’t get a handle on what that giant is, but it’s haunting you.
What giants try to stand in your way today if you are a child of Our Awesome God? Name them. Write them down. Think about how the giants of circumstance and opposition have combined to keep you enslaved to fear and sometimes have driven you almost to the brink of despair. How much longer will you hide in the rocks of fear? When are you going to step into the valley and face the giant eyeball to eyeball?
Once you have taken that first step into the valley and toward the giant, your faith increases and the next step is easier. Our Awesome God, in His infinite wisdom, knows you need to take that first step before He increases your faith in Him and gives you victory over the giants in your life. Our Awesome God is there to fight with you and for you because that fight is His also. God will bless you with victory!
We (as a church) want all people in church, worshipping Our Awesome God with faith and obedience every Sunday. If you are not yet a Christian, it is time that you should know and love Our Awesome God as your Creator and Savior. Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we pray and worship Him this Sunday at 10:30 AM and at 6:00 PM for Bible Study with AWANA for children. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests, and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
"For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments."
(Ezra 7:10 KJV)
The story in the Book of Ezra is one of redemption and deliverance. It emphasizes Our Awesome God's power and His keeping of His promises. Ezra was a contemporary of Nehemiah and lived in about 457 B.C. Ezra led a group of Jews from captivity in Babylon back to Jerusalem. The purpose of his journey was to restore the worship of God in the temple at Jerusalem.
Ezra was a scribe (scholar) of Our Awesome God. He was one of the first of a class of scholars dedicated to the knowledge and preservation of all the written and oral traditions of the Israelites. Ezra and those like him became the scribes, lawyers, and rabbis of Jesus’ day. Ezra was also a descendent of Aaron in the tribe of Levi, so he was a priest. The theme of Ezra’s life and work could be summed up by the phrase, “...the hand of the Lord my God was upon me...” (Ezra 7:28). Ezra used this phrase to indicate that God was blessing his work and to give God the credit for his success.
Ezra travelled from Babylon to Jerusalem, leading a group of Jews with money to help set up the Temple of Our Awesome God and the guards that King Artaxerxes had provided for their protection. Truly the hand of the Lord was upon him as Ezra had said because he got what he needed as God had set it up for him. Ezra knew the first five books of God's Word by memory so he knew the Jews were God's people.
Our Awesome God had His man set up to bring His Word back to His people after their captivity in Babylon and other countries. Ezra was a man who sought God and His Word and then put his belief into action. Are we people who seek God and His Word? This is important to know because God says, "seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7 KJV). If we aren't seeking more about God, what are we doing? God has so much to show us and tell us if we but look and listen.
Our Awesome God uses people like Ezra who are teachable, who listen, who are softhearted and are obedient to put God's requests into action. So put on your best and listen to His best to find the job and purpose He has just for you. Yes, our God has a job for you to further His Kingdom.
Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard, telling others and reminding ourselves about His story, Jesus Christ's Salvation, and our eternal home with Him, trying to help them to understand Our Creator better. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and a Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour with a children's program called AWANA that goes until 7:30 PM. Prayer Meeting is on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. We love visitors!
