"A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards."
(Proverbs 29:11 KJV)
"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"
(2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV)
Emotions are a part of living for the human being and they are even found in Our Awesome God. It is important that we recognize this and learn to control our emotions, that is, don't let our emotions control our actions. God controls His and we should try to control ours without repressing them. Emotions have psychological as well as physiological reactions that can be dangerous to us and to others, physically as well as spiritually. Much of the Bible records the emotions of great people of God and shows us where they sinned when they didn't control their emotions. The reasons we need to recognize our emotions are many but here are three:
First, our emotions are all around us and in us. Our emotions define our inner being and tell us constantly about our surroundings. The awareness of the life around us starts with what our emotions tell us about that world. In order that we continue to exist, we need to know something about our emotions. Emotions can cause increased heart rate, increased blood pressure and increased respirations.
Second, our emotions can come with great intensity. We often find ourselves struggling with them because the emotion is so strong and intense. You can usually put a thought out of your mind but an emotion that causes fear or dread is hard to overcome without the help of Our Awesome God. We need to realize that we cannot always get away from our feelings without His help.
Third, be very aware that emotions will not serve to make things correct. Jesus Christ's death, burial and resurrection are not correct just because emotionally we feel they are correct. True understanding of why Christ died and how much Our Awesome God loves us do bring hope and a happy heart in the Bible so our emotions are involved but they don't make it happen or make it right.
Our Awesome God gave us emotions so we can be happy, joyful and hopeful but also to show us the down side with frustration, doubt and anger. When we can control them with experience, prayer and help from Jesus Christ, we will be ready to move on toward maturity and eventually heaven. We are still in training and not a completed work yet. So don't give up on yourselves, just keep trying to get control of those emotions.
Come to our church which starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM we have Bible Study and we meet again on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. We enjoy visitors!
"Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed."
(Hebrews 12:12-13 KJV)
"This verse is Our Awesome God's Word of encouragement to us to lift the hands of faith and to fortify the knees of prayer. All too often our faith becomes tired, weak and listless, and our prayers lose their power and effectiveness." Written by Maltbie D. Babcock for the June 18 devotional readings, pg. 237 in Streams in the Desert by L. B. Cowman. Zondervan 1997.
Our Awesome God wants us to realize that we need to be strong, to get what we do right, to get bold but to watch out as we go spreading God's Word to all we meet. It sounds like He might be training us but warning us that it won't be easy for us. It takes strong faith and much prayer to keep going when others seem to quit trying to do it God's way.
Our Awesome God has given us many reasons to be strong in the Lord and put off our discouragement in previous verses (Hebrews 12:1-11), so now it is time to do it. Realize He wants you strong and committed to doing the evangelizing His way and in His time giving Him the glory. Are you ready? Because the picture in the verse, "feeble knees," speaks of an area that is first to go when one surrenders to discouragement. Are you ready to move using those knees and work for our Lord?
Like the military services, Our Awesome God is "looking for a few good men". Are you able to keep going when the going gets tough? Are you one of the "few good men"? It is not the time to quit His Service but to look forward to what He has promised will happen next. When discouragement strikes, read and think about Abraham, Moses and missionaries such as Dr. Livingston in Africa and Lottie Moon, who tried to evangelize China. We will not win all battles spiritual, emotional or physical, but know that every battle, win or lose, contributes to Our Awesome God’s ultimate total victory.
Read Our Awesome God's Holy Bible at least once daily. Study the whole scripture to discover the truth. There can be no contradiction in His Word. Attend one of His churches (not a cult) that preaches and teaches that Jesus Christ died for you, taking your sins upon Himself and arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. God loves you!
