"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."
(Acts 17:11 KJV)
"For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:"
(1 Peter 2:21 KJV)
In the Christian walk through life and toward heaven, we must first have accepted Christ as our Savior, repenting of our sins and agreed to obey Him. Once we have become a Christian it is time to start growing in our knowledge and belief in Our Awesome God and His Son, Jesus Christ. All of us want to grow up and most of us know that if we don't grow we will eventually stagnate. So it is essential to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. However, just growing for the sake of growing is not the intention of God. God expects our growth to lead us to more Christ-like living.
Over the last two years, the articles written on this web page have been intended to help us to grow toward maturity in Christ and that idea will continue in 2016. We need to know the way to increase our growth so here are ways to grow. 1) We Must Study God's Word so that we can recognize His Word when we hear it. Read James 1:18-28. 2) We Must Pray - so that we are talking to Him, and listening for His answers and getting to understand Him better. Read Matthew 26:31-75. 3) We Must Fellowship with Other Christians so that we understand what they have learned, adding it to our own knowledge. Read I Corinthians 12:12-27. 4) We Must Witness for Christ - so that we realize what we believe and why. Read Acts 26:12-29. 5) We Must Obey God - so that we realize that obedience to Our Awesome God brings God's awesome power and knowledge to take the right course of action to correct a problem. Read Romans 6:14-23.
Our growth to maturity will never be complete until we reach heaven, but we need a church that is teaching and moving toward maturity for us to grow, for otherwise we stagnate. It is hard to know what Our Awesome God wants us to do to further His Kingdom so we must keep in close contact with Him and His Holy Word, spreading His Word and watch how others are being successful. But always preaching and teaching from His Holy Bible.
Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and a Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour with a children's program called AWANA extending to 7:30 PM. There are plans for more during the week of Bible Discussions in homes. Prayer meeting is on Wednesday. We love visitors!
"Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief".
(Mark 9:23-24 KJV)
In the Scripture above, Jesus said that everything is possible, not that everything would be granted just because you prayed to God for it. Our Awesome God may be trying to teach you the way of faith. The training for a life of faith that is powerful may encompass many different areas of learning including a trial of faith, the patience of faith and the courage of faith.
When you have made your request to God, and the answer still does not come, what are you to do? How about, keep on believing His Word and praying? Don't be swayed from praying by what you think you see or feel. Then as you stand firm, your faith is being developed, strengthened and deepened into the power of faith. Read your Bible and pray. God will tell you if He wants you to quit praying to Him about something.
Our Awesome God often keeps you waiting longer for an answer so you can experience the patience of faith. Keep expecting Him to answer because He will answer. You may have to endure ridicule, hardship and even incarceration to increase your courage in faith. But many of the heroes of the faith, such as Abraham, Moses and Joseph to name a few, had their faith tested and strengthened by God until their faith held strong.
Our Awesome God knows when to strengthen us and how to teach us what we need to do to have complete faith in Him. Faith is strengthened and deepened when you experience it in life. God will increase your faith and make you realize He is always with you and you can lean on Him. Faith is the one thing He wants from you that proves you believe in Him. The power of faith is awesome when your faith is in Our Awesome God. So bring on the trials so we can be stronger in our faith in God. We can be sure He will help us increase our faith in Him.
If you are a Christian who has strayed away from Our Awesome God or someone who has never been a Christian or a person who needs to help minister to others, join us at Living Word Baptist Church on Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study and at 10:30 AM for the Praise and Worship Service. At 6:00 PM Sunday evening, we have a Bible Study with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests, and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We welcome all people and love them!
"Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them."
(Acts 8:4-5 KJV)
In April 17, 2013, a fertilizer plant that supported the town of West, Texas (population~ 2700) burned and exploded killing 15 people and injured over 160 others. It destroyed 60-80 buildings in the town and people lost their principle place to work. This made national news and people from all over the United States rushed to help them in any way they could and some people left the town of West. Since Christians are not immune to the disasters of life, we can be certain that some people who left were Christians and some who came into the town to help were Christians. Many people who loved the Lord found themselves in places they never expected to be and able to preach Our Awesome God's Word to others.
Were those same people whose lives and hopes were shattered by that explosion ready to bring God's Word to others? God may have thought so. Because now they had a testimony of God's mercy and love to tell others about their being alive. Like the early Christians in Jerusalem who were forced out of the city because of persecution, those that left West and those that came in to help have had the opportunity to spread Our Awesome God's Word to others (Acts 8:4) and they did.
Though none of the responders or those that moved out would choose such a loss of life and expenditure of finances as happened in West, Texas, it is our prayer that they take this opportunity to spread God's Word to those around them. Whether giving help or receiving help, a disaster usually gives Christians a chance to give more hope to others who need it by telling them about Our Awesome God and what He can do for them.
Are you ready to do as Peter wrote: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: "(1 Peter 3:15 KJV)? If we are uprooted, will we spread God's Word? Are you ready to tell others why you believe in Our Awesome God? We are to teach God's Word to all!
