"For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.
(1 Samuel 30:24 KJV)
In the Scripture verse above, David is talking to his army which was complaining because they were expected to share the prizes they had taken with the warriors who hadn't fought in the battle but had stayed with the supplies. David told them they would all share the prizes equally. And so it is today that when a war is won all get the praise and honor, and the veterans benefits, not just those holding the weapons.
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday observed annually on November 11 that honors military veterans, in other words, persons who have served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I because major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 and signed into law by then President Dwight D. Eisenhower. (Information found in "History of Veterans Day" U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.) So as Veterans Day is observed this year, think of the devastation of life suffered by our Armed Forces and also the enemies as we have defended ourselves and others.
Our ability to kill and get killed becomes more massive with each war, showing us what our sins have done to us as human beings. It seems to me that we Christians should be praying for Jesus Christ's Second Coming. It is past time to get close to God and straighten our lives out so that sins are rare and we are ready for seeing our Lord Jesus Christ!
