"And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's."
(2 Chronicles 20:15 KJV)
The story of good king Jehoshaphat, who became King of Judah at the age of 35 years and reigned for 25 years, is a story of some mistakes and some wonderful successes as he led the kingdom back to the worship of Our Awesome God (2 Chronicles 18-20). He destroyed the groves for the worship of Baal and Ashtoreth (2 Chronicles 17:6) and he cleaned up the Temple in Jerusalem for the worship of Our Awesome God. God gave him peace and riches because his heart was seeking the Lord,
Then King Jehoshaphat allowed King Ahab to talk him into going to war with him against a common enemy of both countries (2 Chronicles 18:3). King Jehoshaphat should have known that God would not like this alliance with an evil enemy such as King Ahab. In fact, they had trouble finding a prophet of God in Israel under King Ahab and then the prophet told them they would lose (2 Chronicles 18:19-22).. But he still went to war where King Ahab was killed and their forces scattered by the enemy.
King Jehoshaphat was not home long when an alliance of enemies appeared at his borders and he knew he couldn't win against that big an army. So he declared a day of fasting for his nation and prayed to Our Awesome God who answered him in 2 Chronicles 20:15-17. All Jerusalem and visitors from surrounding countries watched as the enemies destroyed themselves. No one was left alive and it took 3 days to collect all the valuables from the enemies’ possessions and take them into Jerusalem. Judah had peace all the remaining days of Jehoshaphat's reign.
Jehoshaphat never completely turned his people back to the worship of Our Awesome God. They saw miracles but not all worshipped God. We sadly are the same; we don't all worship Our Awesome God. We have the Holy Bible and the miracles from God in answer to our prayers, but we still don't all worship our creator God who keeps this world and all the planets in their proper places. Our Father God wants all to worship Him and one day we will all bend our knees saying He is Lord, but not all will live in heaven for eternity. Will you be in heaven for eternity?

" Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."
(Ephesians 6:11-13 KJV)
On May 28, 2015, in this column, we began a three part discussion of battles that are constantly being fought in the war between God and Satan. The prizes in this war are the souls of men. Christians are warriors of God on earth.
Our Awesome God does not leave His warriors defenseless. He has provided the protective equipment and the weapons we need for battle and He guarantees that they will be effective. Although often overlooked, Ephesians 6:11-13 contains the orders for Christian warriors to prepare to use the equipment before actively joining in the battles. Failure to do so will severely limit your individual effectiveness for God and you may become a casualty with no effect at all.
The armor is likened to that worn by a Roman soldier, even to being heavy and cumbersome. Our spiritual armor should serve us in the same way---protection from the "evil one" (Satan). Like the Roman soldier, you need to work in your armor and teach yourself to use it correctly to protect you from attack by Satan. Remember, it is important that you wear and use your spiritual armor because you are in full-time service to Jesus Christ if you are a Christian! You are in the Army of God! So when you get up in the morning PUT ON THAT SPIRITUAL ARMOR! Pray, asking Our Awesome God to put on each piece of the Armor as you go. The armor will help against Satan's lures and lies each day you put it on. Then put the armor on each member of your family using your prayers, because this is WAR, 24/7!
This is a continuing war between Our Awesome God and Satan that has spanned the life of earth itself (Isaiah 14:12-15), and will continue until events in Revelation have been accomplished. This war has already been won by Jesus Christ's death on the cross so Satan is trying to take as many souls as possible to hell with him. It is called a Spiritual Battle (Ephesians 6:12). Be sure you put on the WHOLE armor of God for protection, your conscious and unconscious being. Leave nothing of yourself open to attack but have all of you guarded with His armor.
Though you cannot see it, this war is a real battle of spirits and we can win the one on earth (see this column for May 29. 2015) with Our Awesome God's help against Satan and his demons (fallen angels who rebelled against God). Read your Holy Bible in Ephesians 6, pray and read #2 Arming Yourself, on our website for tomorrow, 6/06/15. If you are not a Christian, become one and win the war against Satan for your place in eternity! Heaven!

"Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:"
(Romans 7:20-22 KJV)
We will suffer in our flesh, whether we feed our bodies desires or deny its pleasures. We are constantly fighting between what we want to do versus what we know that Our Awesome God wants us to do. "All have sinned and fall short," but the blood of Christ has saved us from destruction. The battle is raging because we are given the power to overcome sin's grasps through the blood of Jesus Christ. There is no battle when there is no opposing side. It takes two, at least, to fight. When we are dead in our sins, there is no spiritual battle within us because there is not any spiritual life. The Spirit of God brings us to life spiritually, but we live in these bodies of flesh that still have a sinful nature. Thus, the battle rages in the lives of believers but the victory is assured because we are in Christ. This is our constant inner battle!
There is a coming "evil day," when the spiritual war will expand and the problems for believers will increase (Ephesians 5:15-16). This time will come in that future day when Satan's opposition will intensify, leading to the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and the final destruction of Satan and his hosts (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12; Revelation 12, 20).
The Christian warrior is to be characterized by vigilance, so that he will not be caught off guard by Satan’s schemes, and so that he will be able to stand in the final days of confrontation. Therefore he needs to be aware of the Spiritual Battles that are raging in and around him.
Don’t you desire to be all that God wants you to be because He is so good that He only gives you good things? And don’t you want to have all that God wants you to have because He wants the best for you? If so, then you have to accept that there are forces set against you to prevent you from having any of these things fulfilled in you. And we must fight those forces in spiritual battles, in earthly battles and in inner battles.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
(John 15:13 KJV)
"For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."
(1 Corinthians 15:21 22 KJV)
Since ancient times man has honored those who have died while fighting their enemies. Memorial Day is a day the United States Government has set aside to honor our veterans who have lost their lives during conflict.
The exact date that a special day was set aside to honor soldiers who died while fighting in any of the States before the Civil War is difficult to determine. But on 5 May 1868 General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, ordered that flowers be placed on May 30, 1868 at Arlington National Cemetery on all Union and Confederate soldiers' graves. And we do know that there were scattered ceremonies honoring the dead before the time of the Civil War. Nothing had been done on a National level to honor them annually but some states or cities in the Union and Confederate States had varying ceremonies to honor their dead soldiers.
After the Civil War, this collection of ceremonies became known as Decoration Day and honored soldiers of both the Union and the Confederate Armies. The 20th century ceremonies included honor for all military personnel in our country with speeches, flags, parades, visiting of graveyards, visiting of memorials, remembering past glories in military service and possibly potluck dinners after speeches. So Memorial Day now occurs at the beginning of summer although many of the activities that were associated with Decoration Day have been discontinued.
A typical program for the Arlington National Cemetery might include: 1) Being on the last Monday in May, 2) the gravestones in Arlington Cemetery have been decorated with United States flags for the weekend, 3) speeches made by famous people about those killed in battle and a 21 gun salute. Today, Memorial Day is a national holiday for remembering the men and women that died while serving in the United States and allowing us religious freedom.
