"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
(Galatians 5:22-23 KJV)
Notice that among the "fruits of the Spirit are "feelings" that we really enjoy feeling such as "love, joy, and peace." We need to be aware that feelings are important because they can influence our thinking and the actions we chose to take. This makes it important that we understand enough about them to know what they are, how to live with them and keep resulting thoughts and actions within the realm of pleasing to Our Awesome God.
Some in the church teach that feelings of any kind are to be suppressed because they can be dangerous to the Christian. But then our Holy Bible says that when we become Christians we have a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26 KJV) and we are new people (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV) so our feelings are not always dangerous or wrong. There are many instances in Our Awesome God's Holy Bible such as Jesus Christ showing compassion in Mark 8:2 or the feeling of wonder and awe that occurred during and after Pentecost in Acts 2. These are wonderful examples of feelings God gives us and wants us to have and use in our obedience to Him.
We know that there are other feelings that lead us away from Our Awesome God and tempt us to sin, including envy, lust, jealousy, and many more. If we recognize them, we can sometimes direct our minds to other thoughts but we cannot completely avoid these feelings. We may categorize such feelings as "sinful" but they are just temptations and sin occurs only in the resulting thoughts and actions we may do.
So everyone has feelings, and not all feelings are good. How do we prevent our feelings from giving us the sinful thoughts and actions that Our Awesome God wants us to avoid? Immediately, when you are aware of your feelings not being right, you should check them against your knowledge of the Holy Bible. Then turn your thoughts to something that is good and pure, placing yourself in the middle of it and think of your feelings in that situation. One defense is to develop a habit of directing your response to sinless actions such as prayer or Bible study when you experience these feelings. When we get rid of the feeling or, as our Bible tells us, we take the feeling captive to Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5), the temptation will go away. If you have feelings that are beyond your control, check with your Pastor for help (1 Corinthians 10:13).
We need to know what is right so we need to know our Holy Bible, then we need to chose to do right and do it. LWBC is a Bible believing church that tries to live Jesus Christ's commandment to "love one another as I have loved you."
