"Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him... So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great."
(Job 2:11, 13 KJV)
Please notice, these were three friends of Job who knew about Our Awesome God, and came by foot and donkey to mourn with him. Eliphaz, the Temanite, who came from Edom, from people that were known for their wisdom. Bildad, the Shuhite, who came from a powerful people that lived on both sides of the Euphrates, bordering on Arabia. Zophar, the Naamathite who was from Naaman which was possibly Arabian and close to Uz and Syria. These places are all a long way from Job's home, especially by foot. Do you have one friend who would travel that far to mourn with you over the loss of your children and wealth? Job had three.
They saw Job's grief and it took them 7 days before they could talk to him, but Scripture says that they wept with him. These people really loved him! They probably brought their families and possessions with them. Would you feel a friend's grief so much that you would wait 7 days to talk to him? These were real friends! Then they opened their mouths and told Job what they thought. Almost all commentaries that we read said how awful his friends were because they thought it was all Job's fault.
We should take a closer look at these three friends and what they said. They thought they were helping Job and supporting him in his grief. Remember, true friends would die for you as Jesus Christ did. We should consider these as true friends, just set in their ways and not very subtle, but really wanting Job to repent for his sake.
Our Awesome God wants you to check yourself daily and repent of any sin you have committed. He wants you to know Him as Job did and know your Bible well enough to know when you sin. You are His child if you believe in His son, Jesus Christ, who died for you and took your sins upon Himself and then arose the third day to sit by God, interceding for you when you sin. Learn how to be a true friend, like Jesus, to someone, just don't presume to know why God is allowing something to happen. God could have many reasons to do something. Just tell them about Jesus Christ!
