"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;"
(Titus 2:11, 12 KJV)
"For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come."
(1 Timothy 4:8 KJV)
The definition of godly is: Adj.1) godly - showing great reverence for god; reverent, worshipful, devout, pious - having, showing or expressing reverence for a deity; 2) godly - emanating from God; "divine judgment"; "divine guidance"; (Merriam-Webster Dictionary.)
Godliness consists of two distinct but similar traits, and the person who wants to train himself to be godly must pursue both with equal vigor. The first trait is God-centeredness, which we call devotion to Our Awesome God; the second is God-likeness, which we call Christian character. Godly character flows out of devotion to God and practically confirms the reality of that devotion. Joseph, Jacob's son, was a Godly man. Read Genesis 36:6-9 to see devotion in action in a Godly man.
Devotion to Our Awesome God, then, is the mainspring of a godly character. We should be focusing on God. We need to be putting God first in our lives and remembering Him when we are tempted and praying to Him for help with every decision we make.
Godliness is a loving but reverent awe of Our Awesome God. Godliness is what the Bible means by the "fear of God" or "the fear of the Lord". It is a respectful, loving awe of God. It is living and caring more about what God thinks than about what other people think. When you are truly focused on God with reverent awe your Christian character will be evident to others. This Godliness will shine from you!
Godliness should be our goal in life. It takes a while to develop so don't give up. Our Awesome God will be pleased with you. Read your Bible, pray to your God earnestly and attend a Christian church that follows the Biblical principles found in God's Holy Bible. God loves you and wants you to become more Godly.
Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard, telling others and reminding ourselves about His story, Jesus Christ's Salvation, and our eternal home with Him, trying to help them to understand Our Creator better. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and a Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Meeting and Bible Study along with a Spanish Bible Study and Youth Chapel until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
