"And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no."
(Deuteronomy 8:2 KJV)
"Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."
(1 Peter 5:5 KJV)
If we look at the definition of HUMBLE as (Merriam-Webster) has defined it: "not proud or haughty; not arrogant or assertive; reflecting, expressing, or offered in a spirit of deference or submission <a humble apology>", we see that a person cannot be proud and be humble. This means that we Americans are mostly not humble. We are proud of all we have and try to be proud of all we do. We are taught to have pride. We know our country has a better standard of living than most countries. We believe we are the best and have the best of everything.
What does Our Awesome God think of, "our best"? If God took His people through the wilderness of the desert to teach them humility after they had been slaves, what does He think of our pride in ourselves and our country? Read carefully the Book of Exodus. We should be glad that God honored us with a nation such as we have with its freedoms and natural resources. God did it!
Furthermore, what does Our Awesome God think of the attitude that we find in young people that, by the time they are in High School, they think know more than their parents or any older person, even if they are failing in High School? And they may indeed have more knowledge but usually they are lacking in wisdom for application. Are we a humble people? In general, no, we are not ready for Heaven yet. God wants humble people.
On the other hand, there are Americans that are humble and we need to be among them. So, if you're not sure of how humble you are, then read Numbers 12:3; Psalms 10:12; Isaiah 57:15; Romans 12:16 and James 4:10. Our Awesome God has given us a lot just to let us live in America so the least we could do is learn to be humble.
Join a church that shows you how to be humble and get ready for God's beautiful Heaven. Although we aren't the only church that talks about being humble, we are one that does. Learn to be humble as Our Awesome God sees and defines in His Word. (Romans 12:3) Come this Sunday as we learn more about Our Awesome God and teach others from His Holy Bible. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. We love visitors!
