"And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee."
(Exodus 15:26 KJV)
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
(2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV)
Jehovah means God or Lord and gives the idea of pre-existing. Rapha conveys the idea of restoring or healing something to its "normal" or useful state. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV, we see the famous statement "... will I hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land." So the land, polluted by the sin of idolatry could be "healed" and made useful and fruitful by Jehovah-rapha (in answer to repentant prayer).
The Hebrew name for Our Awesome God in this scripture is Jehovah-rapha, meaning healing. God brought on the diseases to the Egyptians, but He also healed them from those diseases. God truly is the healer of all our diseases here on earth. We should say Jehovah-rapha is the Great God who heals the physical, spiritual and mental needs of all people. He still heals us today whether we are His Christian child or not.
Our Awesome God is the Lord that heals our physical bodies since He created them, as He has shown abundantly through scripture and even in our own lives, or in the lives of those we know. But the emphasis on healing in both the Old and New Testaments is NOT on physical healing, but on spiritual healing and renewal because God knows it is more important since sin created the diseases.
As Jehovah-rapha, Our Awesome God can heal the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of all people. As Christians, we need to remember that God is always ready to "heal" all people who are truly repentant and stop sinning, of their spiritual and emotional needs. This is something your non-Christian neighbors need to know. Have you told them about Our Awesome God? Read Jeremiah 30:17, Isaiah 30:26, and Psalm 103:3 to give you more ideas of what God can heal.
We (as a church) want all people in church, worshipping Our Awesome God with faith and obedience every Sunday. Join us at Living Word Baptist Church as we pray and worship Him this Sunday at 10:30 AM and at 6:00 PM for Bible Study with AWANA for children. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests, and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We love visitors!
