"And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord, and called it Jehovah–shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi–ezrites."
(Judges 6:23-24 KJV)
The name that Gideon used, "Jehovah-shalom," means God of peace. Gideon had just tested the Lord with the fleece of a sheep and Gideon was fearful that Our Awesome God might kill him. So Gideon worshipped God and God gave a quiet peace to him and Gideon knew that God was with him. So the doubter became the champion of Jehovah-shalom and attacked the Philistines as God had told him to do (Judges 6:26-30). When the deep and quiet peace of God falls upon you, you know God has been with you and it is time to listen carefully.
Once again, our God is Awesome and reveals Himself through the meaning of His name. God wants us to know Him and understand Him. God wants you to know the "shalom" He can bring when you obey and follow Him. Yes, God's peace is special and something we should all strive to obtain because this "shalom" gives a lasting warm perfect feeling of God's love and care for you. Once you have felt it (the peace), you will want to feel it again! (Like God is hugging you and saying "Well done, My good and faithful servant.")
Our God is Awesome and wonderful at any time but this quiet peace is not of this world. This is another instance when the Hebrew language is very detailed and we have no good English word to describe God as Gideon did. So as you read God's Word, it is good to have a Bible that tells you which characteristic of God He is exhibiting.
God is truly the way to peace and awe. Believe in Our Awesome God and His only Son for that quiet, "shalom," peace. Read your Bible, pray and attend a Bible believing church that preaches that Jesus, the Son of God, died for your sins and rose on the third day to sit beside God. May Our Awesome God in the attribute of Jehovah-shalom always be with you!
Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard, telling others and reminding ourselves about His story, Jesus Christ's Salvation, and our eternal home with Him, trying to help them to understand Our Creator better. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and a Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour along with a children's program called AWANA until 7:30 PM. A Prayer Meeting with Bible Study meets on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. We love visitors!
