"For the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people."
(1 Samuel 12:22 KJV)
"Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses."
(Psalms 25:16-17 KJV)
David, King of Israel, was beloved of Our Awesome God, but no one felt loneliness more keenly than busy David. In a series of honest, heartfelt psalms directed to God, David cried out in his deep loneliness and despair to the One he knew could help, God. David's son rose up against him to take his kingdom, the men of Israel that he was to rule went after him, and he fled the city, and left his possessions, loved ones, home, and family. In David's loneliness and affliction (Psalm 25:16), his immediate action was to turn to God and plead for God's attention and God’s intervention (Psalm 25:21) because David's only hope was always God.
When we realize we are lonely, we need to turn to Our Awesome God and pray, just as David did because He always has something for us to do. We need to focus on the wonderful things God has given us and not on what we don't have. God gave us Jesus Christ and, as He dwells in us through the Holy Spirit, we are never alone (Hebrews 13:5). When you become a Christian by accepting Jesus Christ as your savior, He comes to dwell in you and become one with you. How intimate you make this relationship with Christ is up to you, but if your focus is on Jesus Christ, you won't stay lonely for very long as He has a purpose for you. His peace is beyond human understanding and something you will want all the time. He has a purpose for you, find out what that purpose is!
