"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart."
(Genesis 6:5-6 KJV)
During the time period between Adam's removal from the Garden of Eden by Our Awesome God's angel and The Flood, we have a time some call "Pre-deluvian" Period." A study of the lifetimes of Adam through Methuselah found in Genesis 5 indicates that this was about 1650 years. There is a limited set of archeological findings to tell us about what God didn't put in His Holy Bible. So we know that humans lived in houses and buried their dead in caves and they used wood and metal according to archeological finds. They lived long lives and had many children. They wrote on clay tablets some of which have been found. But they had abandoned God and were immersed in self indulgence.
Our Awesome God saw how man was evil and doing all kinds of perverted things. He saw how the giants were doing evil and the good righteous people were becoming fewer. (Please realize this is only one scenario among many.) God was angry (Genesis 6:7) and that is not speculation. There are many ideas of what Our Awesome God might have thought but His anger was deep and had taken many years to grow. So His consequences would occur in His time and with justice for all.
God is Awesome for He loved mankind and had given them all their needs with rich land, clean water, fish, animals to bear their worst burdens, a good climate, and no bad weather. Yet only a few acknowledged He was God or worshipped Him in any way. Were the people taking care of the earth, plants and animals as He asked? They were sinning and inventing more ways to sin. So God decided to destroy them with a FLOOD. But God loved His creation, man!
God waited until nearly all of the righteous people were gone from the earth (another conclusion, found by knowing when the last righteous person died and when the FLOOD began). Methuselah was born in 2625 BC and died in 1656 BC. This left only Noah and his family of 8 people who were righteous. Read Genesis chapter 4.
We need to remember God loves us; He created us and wants us to love and worship Him. But He hates sin and sin brings consequences. However, suffering consequences cannot pay for any sin. The only payment for sin is death (Romans 6:23) but you can only die once and that does not cover all your sins! In His love for us, God sent Jesus Christ, who has never sinned, to die and pay the price for all the sins of all mankind. It is a gift that no one deserves but is freely available to anyone who believes and repents, accepting, not just forgiveness, but payment in full for all his sins, past, present and future.
If you are a Christian who has strayed away from Our Awesome God or someone who has never been a Christian or a person who needs to help minister to others, join us at Living Word Baptist Church on Sunday at 9:30 AM for Bible Study and at 10:30 AM for the Praise and Worship Service. At 6:00 PM Sunday evening, we have a Bible Study along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we meet at 7:00 PM for Prayer Requests, and a Bible Study follows until 8:00 PM. We welcome all people and love them!
