"Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth."
(Daniel 2:31-35 KJV)
Daniel was a prince of Israel taken into captivity by King Nebuchadnezzar and sent to his city of Babylon for teaching, in this case in administration. Daniel was to become a very important person as a prophet and man of Our Awesome God. He served three kings in Babylon.
King Nebuchadnezzar was the first and maybe most spectacular king Daniel served. He was the king mentioned in our Holy Bibles and ruled from 605 to 562 BC. He was the second Chaldean king by that name so when you read about him in history books he is called King Nebuchadnezzar II. His armies increased his kingdom until it reached from Elam in the east to Egypt in the west (II Kings 33-34).
When Judah refused to give tribute to King Nebuchadnezzar II, he sent his army to crush them and in 605 BC they entered Jerusalem, taking captives such as Daniel. They left the King of Judah in Jerusalem and he paid tribute for three years before King Jehoikim revolted and was defeated. He was made to watch his sons killed and then his eyes were put out before he was sent to Babylon along with others. It had taken a year and a half to starve Jerusalem into surrender. Accounts of this dispersion of what was once a strong nation, Israel, can be found in II Kings 24:1, II Chronicles 36:6-7, Nehemiah 7:6, Daniel 1:1-4 and Jeremiah 21:1-2 to name a few.
King Nebuchadnezzar II had Mad Cow Disease for 7 years and allowed a counsel to run his nation with Daniel. He declared Our Awesome God as the only God and was healed. Read your Holy Bible.
One of King Nebuchadnezzar II dreams was of the giant man with feet of clay. (Daniel 2:33-34 KJV) The King demanded description of the dream along with interpretation. Only Daniel could do it because God revealed it to him.
