"Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord".
(Psalms 27:14 KJV)
"Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned."
(Nehemiah 1:6 KJV)
While many who know the Bible like to remember Nehemiah for his trust in Our Awesome God, we should also remember and praise him for waiting on God to put everything in place to begin rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. Before he went to king Artaxerxes to get permission, Nehemiah fasted and prayed for an unknown number of days until the king finally noticed that Nehemiah had a problem (Nehemiah 2:1-2).
When Artaxerxes asked Nehemiah what he needed, Nehemiah had his supply list ready (he knew God wanted the walls rebuilt) and the king got the men for him, the supplies he needed and the power to get the job done (Nehemiah 2:8-9). By waiting for Our Awesome God's time, His guidance and way, the walls and gates of Jerusalem were rebuilt just 52 days after arriving in Jerusalem. God got things ready!
If today we would remember to first pray, fast and wait for Our Awesome God to get things ready, we would be sure it was time to move when God gave us that perfect opening or told us "go." Our world teaches us to do it NOW. So too often we are impatient and overeager to get something started or completed when waiting was what God wanted. We should try what Nehemiah did, get prepared and wait until God was ready and the time was right -- then start under God’s direction with commitment, full confidence and prayer to make sure to stay with the right time and way that God wanted it done. Praise Our Awesome God! We need to pray, fast, and wait for God to say, "GO!"
