"Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be."
(James 3:9, 10 KJV)
The Holy Bible, and therefore Our Awesome God, recognizes the power of words. Our Awesome God spoke His creation into existence, and the gift of speech is one aspect of the creation man in the image of God that is special (Genesis 2:19-20). We should notice that, in the revelation of God’s law, words as well as actions are assigned moral values. Lying, blasphemy, taking the Lord's name in vain, and cursing are examples of sinful speech and actions are forbidden in the Mosaic Law but condoned by other religions associated with idol worship – unnecessary and Idol Words. Deity names are often used by our generation to bring additional potency and irreverence to our expressions. But do they? Or are they reflections of a sinful heart?
In the Holy Scripture cited above, we see that even back in James' time on earth people were using their mouths to praise or bless God and then to curse or use Our Awesome God's name in vain. A mouth used for cursing should not also be used for praising God, should it? It sounds like a deceitful person or maybe the person cannot decide whether he is a Christian or not. Either way, this is not a person to put a lot of trust in. We need to be careful what comes out of our mouths, it reflects what is in our heart.
We must remember that we Christians are Our Awesome God's temple and not a place to be using inappropriate Words. We are examples to all those around us. We should say what we mean and try not to make our words mean more than they do. Our Awesome God does not want us having idols in our lives or in our speech and certainly He does not want us using curse words. Be careful what you say and how you say something. Because you can never take the words back or the hurt they may cause. Use your words wisely!
