"And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him...The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
(James 5:15-16 KJV)
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"
(Luke 11:13 KJV)
As Christians, we need to realize the power of prayer and how it helps us to mature. Remember, also, that prayer is a mighty link with our heavenly Father and an incredible privilege and responsibility that He has given us to move His hand in impossible situations. Our Awesome God has given us the power through prayer to move the hand of God. "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." (John 15:7 KJV) This means we have faith in God or Jesus Christ to do what we want done if that is within His Will.
The source of prayer power is the Holy Spirit and the instrument of prayer power is you. It is you when you are filled with the Holy Spirit and pray in Jesus name. In fact, it was by your prayer in Jesus name that the Holy Spirit was given to you, and by your prayer in His name, the Holy Spirit filled you and empowered you (Luke 11:13).
Our Awesome God has let us be the instrument of power but the power comes through our prayers only when we depend on the Holy Spirit and pray to Jesus Christ. Accordingly, when we pray in the Holy Spirit we are saying to God, “I can do nothing without you, Lord. You are my strength. I wait on You for power to do whatever it is You want me to do.” And then, out of our weakness, He gives us the omnipotent power of Christ (2 Corinthians 12:9).
As quoted above, Jesus said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." (John 15:7 KJV) What power! To be able to receive whatever we wish and have it God's Will! It comes to us when we give ourselves totally to Him as His instrument of righteousness and our will becomes aligned with His.
