"Jesus said: "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking."
(Matthew 6:7 KJV)
Repetitions are good but Our Awesome God wants you to tell Him what you want and feel. Some begin with "The Lord's Prayer" and that is good if they go on to tell Him what they want. People sometimes pray many times a day but if you are saying the same thing every time God must feel like Jesus says in Matthew 6:7, "use not vain repetitions." Dr. Spurgeon wrote that "...They think they have prayed so much because they have prayed so long, whereas it is the work of the heart — the true pouring out of the desire before God — that is the thing to be looked at."
In Luke 11, His disciples were asking Him to teach them a formula so that when they prayed, Our Awesome God would listen to them and answer them as He did Jesus. They wanted God to respond when they asked and we should know that He doesn't always respond immediately. The use of repetitions or the length of the prayer won't make the speed of the answer increase. God will answer at the best time and in the best way. Prayers are quality when they come from the heart asking God to help.
When you need to talk to Our Awesome God, just do it, for our God wants to hear your prayers not a formula or a repetition and length makes no difference to Him. If you are in danger, you don't go through a set method of getting His attention, you just ask. Though there are some people that don't call on God when they need help because they don't want to bother Him, but Dwight L. Moody reportedly said, "Some people think God does not like to be troubled with our constant asking. The way to trouble God is not to ask at all."
The prayer should be from your heart telling Our Awesome God how you feel and what you want so that He ends up with quality not length (though frequency He appreciates). Join us as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard, telling others about His story, Jesus Christ's Salvation, and our eternal home with Him, trying to help them to understand Our Creator better. Our church starts with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and a Worship Service at 10:30 AM. On Sunday evening at 6:00 PM, a Bible Study meets for an hour with AWANA, a children's program that goes until 7:30PM. We love visitors!
