"Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them."
(Acts 8:4-5 KJV)
In April 17, 2013, a fertilizer plant that supported the town of West, Texas (population~ 2700) burned and exploded killing 15 people and injured over 160 others. It destroyed 60-80 buildings in the town and people lost their principle place to work. This made national news and people from all over the United States rushed to help them in any way they could and some people left the town of West. Since Christians are not immune to the disasters of life, we can be certain that some people who left were Christians and some who came into the town to help were Christians. Many people who loved the Lord found themselves in places they never expected to be and able to preach Our Awesome God's Word to others.
Were those same people whose lives and hopes were shattered by that explosion ready to bring God's Word to others? God may have thought so. Because now they had a testimony of God's mercy and love to tell others about their being alive. Like the early Christians in Jerusalem who were forced out of the city because of persecution, those that left West and those that came in to help have had the opportunity to spread Our Awesome God's Word to others (Acts 8:4) and they did.
Though none of the responders or those that moved out would choose such a loss of life and expenditure of finances as happened in West, Texas, it is our prayer that they take this opportunity to spread God's Word to those around them. Whether giving help or receiving help, a disaster usually gives Christians a chance to give more hope to others who need it by telling them about Our Awesome God and what He can do for them.
Are you ready to do as Peter wrote: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: "(1 Peter 3:15 KJV)? If we are uprooted, will we spread God's Word? Are you ready to tell others why you believe in Our Awesome God? We are to teach God's Word to all!
