"And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah–jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen."
(Genesis 22:14 KJV)
God said to Elijah; "And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there."
(1 Kings 17:4 KJV)
Yahweh-Jireh means "the Lord will provide" and it stresses God's provision for His people. He has always provided everything we need and all we need to know if we are willing to listen, learn and obey.
The first Bible verse above is taken from the story of Abraham going to sacrifice his son, Isaac, at Our Awesome God's command. But when God saw that Abraham would really kill his son, God provided a ram to be killed as a sacrifice instead of Abraham's son. Just as God provides the right air for us to breathe, the right body to heal itself most of the time, a plan to prosper each person on the earth, water to drink, etc., God was providing it all until Eve and Adam disobeyed God and ate fruit from the tree in "the midst of the garden" that God had told them not to eat of it.
In the second Bible verse, found in 1 Kings, Our Awesome God commanded Elijah, the prophet, to hide from King Ahab who wanted to kill Elijah. God provided for Elijah, food, water and a hiding place. Elijah was pursued by the king for a long time and was never found until Elijah invited Ahab to meet him out on a road. God provides if we ask and obey.
Our Awesome God provides everything for us from the air we breathe to the food we eat. He will also provide a place in Heaven if we believe that His Son, Jesus Christ, died for your sins and rose on the third day to sit at the right hand of God and that we are sorry for disobeying Him. Heaven is the eternal home God has provided for Himself and for those who believe in His Son and follow His holy commandments. Each of us will have all our needs met and a purpose to continue helping our wonderful God. God is Awesome because He will create a new heaven and earth for us.
