"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
(Romans 12:2 KJV)
While thinking about the really great men of the Bible, we should consider that most of them had years that we know nothing about, that they spent on getting to know and maybe understand Our Awesome God better. These are their "years of quiet" that helped them to grow into the great examples that they are. Let us consider Moses, John the Baptist and the apostle, Paul.
Moses was raised in the Pharaoh of Egypt's household and was well educated. But after killing an Egyptian, he fled into the desert (Exodus 2:15). After spending years in the desert around Midian, he saw the "burning bush" and encountered Our Awesome God at which time, he was humbled and became aware that he had speech problems. With God's help, he brought over 3 million slaves out of Egypt and, because of the miracles he had been shown, he knew God is all powerful and is the only God. Moses wandered in the desert with God's stiff-necked people and made mistakes, but became a strong believer in God. His "years of quiet" with God made him a good example. His "years of quiet" made him able to follow God.
Then consider John the Baptist who was a cousin of Jesus Christ and the last Old Testament prophet. Before he started his ministry, he lived in the desert where he ate locusts and wild honey while Our Awesome God strengthened him and prepared him for his mission (Luke 1:80). His "years of quiet" prepared him to preach repentance and the coming Messiah.
Paul of Tarsus seems a good choice. He was well educated, came from an influential family and knew the Scriptures. After seeing and talking to Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus, he spent time alone in the desert with Our Awesome God before starting his ministry as a missionary to the Gentiles. Paul wrote at least 13 books of the Bible while doing missionary work and being a prisoner in Rome. His "years of quiet" really paid off in firming and grounding his belief in Jesus Christ. He is a good example for us.
There were others but these three men show us what focusing on Our Awesome God while ignoring others can do for us. We need "years of quiet" to know and understand God, to know and understand what He wants us to do. Are you ready to spend more time with Him and His Word? Join us at LWBC as we work in Our Awesome God's vineyard to tell everyone about Jesus Christ and His salvation. We start with small groups on Sunday at 9:30 AM and Worship Service at 10:30 AM. We have a Sunday night Bible Study hour at 6:00 PM along with AWANA for children until 7:30 PM. There are many opportunities for Bible study to learn about God in our programs.
