Teaching the Word

We believe that learning, loving and living the Word of God is more than just a phrase, it is a way of life.  Primary to our services is the teaching of the Word.  We have a traditional worship service because we believe that it best reinforces the learning of the Word of God and increases our love for the Word of God.  The more we absorb of the teachings of God’s Word the better the Holy Spirit can lead.  This is the Spirit filled life.  The preaching is expository in both the Sunday morning and evening service.  Wednesday evening is a more relaxed teaching format.  Expository preaching and teaching is developing a biblical text so the hearer knows where and how the preacher derived his ideas.  It is a learning process for the hearer. Bring your Bible and a pen for taking notes and learn the Word with us.

Junior Church

Our Junior Church program is divided into two phases.  The small ones have an age appropriate program that starts with a Children's moment with the Pastor in the main sanctuary.  This reinforces their connection with the regular service and gives them a feeling of  their importance to the Church worship.  The older children are brought into main service by a skilled children's worker and taught to sit through the preaching of the Word and to learn from it.  This transition class is an aid to parents in working with the young ones and increasing their attention span. Come and marvel with us at what they are able to learn.  The adults are often challenged by the Junior Church children’s grasp of the Word and their ability to apply what they learn. Young people are taught the Word of God through Sunday School, Junior Church and AWANA’s.

Sunday School

LWBC has a Sunday School department that supports the family in teaching the Word of God. We believe firmly that we should support the family unit and it is in the family that Christianity and Christian values are to be taught.  To strengthen the family in this undertaking we use a unified curriculum that allows the entire family to study the same text on their age level on Sunday morning. This type of curriculum allows the family to discuss what they have learned in Sunday School and to prepare for learning on next Sunday. Children are especially challenged to learn what Mommy and Daddy are learning and you can be a better Bible expert as you work with your child.  In three years time the entire Bible is covered giving you and your Child a better understanding of the Bible in context.

Youth

According to a survey published by the Josephson Institute of Ethics (Marina del Ray, California, October 2002) of all young people who say that they have "accepted Christ" 74% say they have cheated on tests; 83% claim they lie to their teachers; 93% lie to their parents; and 63% resort to physical violence when they get angry.  Of young people in general 63% don't believe in the deity of Jesus, and 70% don't believe in absolute moral truth.  Faced with such a culture war and knowing that our youth will be engaged in this spiritual war for their entire lives, we will work to equip them with "the whole armor of God" (Ephesians 6:13).  We believe that through teaching the Word of God we can help young people live lives that stand out from the world's society and make a positive difference in those around them.  We will have fun and sometimes be entertained but most of all learn the Word and learn to apply the Word to our lives.

AWANA

AWANA is best described by it’s founder, Art Rorheim, ”The very heart of AWANA is the Word of God.  As young people learn that Jesus Christ died on the cross for their sins, and arose in victory from the dead, they believe in Christ as Savior and accept His wonderful gift of salvation….”  AWANA is a Christ centered Bible based ministry.
